Anyone taking delivery in Fremont towards the end of December?

I have a Roadster and live in Florida. I am coming out to Fremont to visit my in-laws for Christmas.

I contacted Tesla to see if I could get a factory tour, but was told no-one has time for this except for the personal delivery folks who are "delivering" cars to new owners at the factory. He suggested I may be able to tag along with them as a guest for the factory tour.

Sooooo is anyone taking delivery of their S between 12/22 and 1/1 and be willing to let some strangers tag along during the factory tour?

If you don't want to announce this to the world (or at least the Tesla Motors Club members) you can message me here or send me an email to: [email protected]

thanks!!

I have a window of the 16th to the 30th, but no VIN yet. Depending on when the car is ready, it may just be me, or could include my wife and daughter. You're more than welcome to join in on the tour if the timing works for you.

As soon as I have an exact date I'll let you know.

Mike

Hi, I'd be more than happy to have you come with me, but my reservation number is high. My wife is against the idea, so I'll be alone, picking up the car.

I know how that goes. Be aware that as you own the car and she is "forced" to drive with you, her tune will change. At first my wife made fun of how people admire the car in traffic, at the mall, in the driveway, on the highway, at the grocery store, at work, at a light, at the golf course, at the cinema, (I could go on ). At one point she said it was only guys who showed an interest in the car. As soon as she finished the sentence, a girl pulled up next to us and commented on the car! Justice!

She has (finally) come around and now she really likes the attention. The other day we went out to eat at a restaurant that has valet parking. Normally I would never consider paying anyone to joy-ride with, then eventually park my car, but as I was dropping her off out front, the attendant ran up and asked us to park it next to the front door (I didn't have to leave the key!)

On anther occasion, we happened to be in "busy" downtown Cocoa Beach during a car show (we were there for something entirely different). I pulled up to the show and asked if I could park with the other hot rods - they replied "please do!" (free parking with surveillance!)

The best one was at a hotel (we were at a party). I had just picked my wife up and two bellhops came out. I overheard one say to the other "no its not, no its not!" As I started to pull away, they got behind the car and saw the back of the car I heard him say "yes it is!" It made her laugh (in a good way this time!)

So granted, part of the attention is because it is a sports car, but most people who recognize the brand are impressed with the company and appreciate the car for what's under the hood. I am sure that your wife will change her tune also

BTW - has she driven it? My wife drove the S and fell in love (she is NOT a car person!)

FYI I believe the 4 people with me already pulled up in their S before the tour. Tesla must have scheduled them to show up at the same time as me even though I was the only one in the delivery bay afterwards. Maybe you can schedule a tour on a weekend at a time when the one isn't full? I picked the sat 9am slot.

Very funny and encouraging story.

I took my wife to the Tesla store after I put down the deposit several months ago. She sat in the car and said "okay, time to go shopping--for clothes" there is a mall next door.

I tried to get her to go test drive, but she said, "it's gonna be your car....I don't really care" Basically, she didn't want to waste her time. Not only is she NOT a car person, she's almost ANTI-car. She HATES driving and I do all--okay, most--of the driving.

Oh well, I really hope she changes her mind when the car arrives--hopefully in March or so.

If you're around the Bay area at that time, you're more than welcome to join me.

I don't have a delivery date yet, but my contact at Tesla said the car should be ready in a week, and that planning on picking it up during the weekend of the 22nd-23rd should be safe. Given that info, I've gone ahead and made flight reservations for the morning of the 23rd. If that fits into your schedule, let me know, and I'll get back to you when we're finalized with a firm delivery slot.

BTW, how many folks are you planning on touring with?

-Mike

Spoke with a delivery specialist today who told me that given the number of cars being delivered at the factory toward the end of the month, he didn't think that there would be any tours! We're flying into Oakland from San Diego, targeting the 29th for delivery, and we specifically scheduled the factory pickup so that we can do the tour! The person I talked with said that he would look into it! Has anyone else confirmed that Tesla would, in fact, be giving tours to those of us picking up cars?

I am scheduled on the 29th At 9 am. And the last email exchange included a gentleman who arranges the factory tour. So looks like they will still be giving the tours.

I might be asking to tag along on one of your tours between Christmas and New Year's ... I'm waiting to hear when my son might be here. I know he'd enjoy seeing the factory. (Well, okay, who wouldn't??)

Soooooo ... hopefully one of you will have room for us. I just don't know what day yet.
