"It's All About the Battery..." (Management System)
Actually far too many home brew EVs out there lack a good BMS.
Getting good batteries has gotten easier / cheaper, but the BMS is still "hit or miss". I think there are lots of people out there trying to come up with the best home brew turn-key BMS for conversions.

When we started with the idea of the Nemesis the Tesla wasn’t available and we hadn’t heard of it. As we progressed so did Tesla.
Several people have said to me why bother, and we could have stopped anytime I guess and just left it to Tesla and now others. But our car is different, very different to the Tesla.
We’ve spent a year or so and several hundred thousand pounds on our car from scratch (well from a doner car on e-bay to be precise).
I understand that Tesla have taken many years and hundreds of millions of $s to get to where they are.
Two very different approaches, two very different cars.
The need for EV’s is huge, the best route to the most economical and efficient cars will be the one with max innovation, numerous players and numerous approaches.
We’re happy to be pitching in.
And our first car will have spin offs, we’ve learnt much.

Hope they post video of that.We’re also going to simulate the loss of one motor at high speed (on a very long straight road) to see if the software can cut the power to the other one (we have one on each rear wheel) fast enough to avoid torque steer and the loss of control that could come with that. This is a very important test.

Nemesis heads to the track, hits 100 mph in 9.48 seconds
The safety tests went off with nary a hitch and the speed runs proved to be impressive. The Nemesis managed to clock a 9.48-second 0-100 miles per hour run, while pulling off the standing quarter mile run in just 12.71 seconds with a trap speed of 113.7 mph. Top speed came in at a more than respectable 134.5 mph.
While Zero Carbonista was thrilled with the overall results, this round of testing proved that the Nemesis is quite capable despite the company's belief that the vehicle is still at least 10 percent shy of hitting its expected output numbers.
Ok so it's a little noisy.
Dale sounds a lot like Martin did in the early days. Of course in development they came up with different solutions and conclusions than Tesla and that's cool. I take back all my remarks about why not just by a Tesla. If he want's to "waste" his money on his own version of non polluting car that goes fast then all the better for the rest of us.
Now what's up with that steering wheel travel?
