SARASOTA - Building on the momentum generated through Sarasota’s recent celebration of National Plug In Day - a nationwide observance of the economic and environmental benefits of driving an electric vehicle - the Sierra Club will be presenting the very timely film What is the Electric Car? at Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center on Tuesday, November 27[SUP]th[/SUP] at 6:00 pm.

Scott duPont, Host and Producer of the film, selected Sarasota for the film screening and approached organizers of the successful National Plug In Day event that was held in Sarasota in September. “Florida is taking a leadership role with the growing number of new EV drivers, and also a significant number of Florida homeowners and businesses are figuring out they can power their electric cars, trucks, etc. with solar power to eliminate their on-going transportation costs. We’re thrilled to be part of this film premiere event with the Sierra Club!”

What is the Electric Car? is a new feature length documentary about Electric Vehicles (EVs) that started arriving in showrooms in 2012. This entertaining and educational film traces the early history of electric vehicles and continues forward 100 years later to follow the re-birth of an entire industry. Makers of the film say that it is not just for EV enthusiasts or those passionate “Green” consumers, but is an exciting journey for all audiences to go back to the future.

“The pace at which Florida residents are replacing their conventional gasoline powered automobiles with electric vehicles is very promising” says Britten Cleveland, organizing representative for Sierra Club’s Florida Healthy Air campaign. “Electric vehicles have an obvious economic benefit but they are also critical in cleaning up our air pollution and reducing oil dependency.”

Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center is located at 525 Kumquat Court, Sarasota, FL 34236. The film will begin at 6:00pm and will be followed by a Q & A session with electric vehicle owners and industry experts. Audience members will also be able to see many of new all-electric cars from the movie before and after the screening. Refreshments will be provided by Sierra Club and beer and wine are available for purchase from the center. Admission is free.
