I'm not sure whether to say there's anything improper going on here. Certainly there's nothing surprising. This guys predecessor was a VP at Toyota while she was on the air board, and before her they had GM's assistant director of auto-emissions control. I kind of feel like this position is designed to have firm ties to the auto industry. The "automotive specialist" is just industry's guy on the board.
The only trouble is that for a while now everybody's just been doing whatever he says. The other guys are supposed to balance this viewpoint some, and that's not happening.
