Rob (gjunky) and I met for lunch today to look at the new store location. The store is located just across from Microsoft with easy access to a parking lot for road testing vehicles. It was nice to see the "Coming Soon" sign, but would have been better to see "Tesla Coming Soon." Thanks to the new Tucson members. Be sure that we have your email and/or cell phone if you're interested in an invite for a connection over coffee, a beer or lunch. If you come across a Tesla owner or rez holder, ask them to join us. Take care. Mark
You know as many Blink or other public chargers that are around the Valley, I'm shocked that very few of the major shopping centers have EV charging stations. And with the Tesla store opening at Scottsdale Fashion Square, you'd think they would be considering installing EV stations. I think we should contact both Tesla and the SFS service center to inquire about this, to see if it is in consideration or can be done. I'm sure Tesla will have on-site charging facilities, but these may not be J1772 compliant and may not be publicly accessible. But other existing EV owners would be good candidates for a future Tesla purchase so providing them a means to charge while they shop would be good business. We should make a concerted effort to push for some public charging solutions at SFS. As an EV owner, I've found that if malls had them, it would influence my decision on where I shop. I've since begun to ask centers if this service is being planned. Thoughts? - john
They have the store listed as coming soon in the SFS directory now (onlline): http://www.fashionsquare.com/Shopping/Details/148723
I got an email from a rep at SFS who indicated that the opening for the Tesla store was mid-July, but he couldn't / wouldn't give a date. It appears to as we all expected . . . the store opening timed to coincide with the test drives July 13-15. The consensus from those attending last Sunday's meet-up was that the test drive venue would NOT be the SFS store due to the limited availability of a place to test high speeds (too far from the freeway).
Okay . . . the consensus was wrong. Looks like Get Amped will be based at the SFS store.
