Too many prototypes never were really built. ZAP-X, Miles, etc...are unlikely to appear on our streets. Often it is a money issue or those companies are taken over and their cars modified into a gasser. I have the feeling that the big manufacturers will take control soon and mass produce electric or hybrid cars.
They also have the financial power to get a car in relatively little time onto the road.

As sad as it is: The small firms do the dirty work and then the big names take over and make the big profit.

The Commutercar weighs > 3,000 lbs! My electric RX7, with side by side conventional seating, LiFePo traction pack, and full sized, crash tested car body weighs the same.
