I have built a little J1772 to NEMA 14-50 adapter box so if I am ICED I have the cord length to still plug in with my UMC.

I simulate the pilot signal with a diode going through a 2.73K resistor and then a switch with a 1.3K resistor to show the car is connected. The box works on the Nissan, Chevy and on our parking garage J1772 stations but will not work on BLINK charging stations. Whenever I connect to a BLINK the BLINK station show a fault that is resetable.

The problem is most charging stations in Tennessee are BLINK. I have verified the resistance drops properly from the diode to ground but my volt meter shows a lot of resistance on the IN4003 diode. I measure infinity in one direction and 7K the other direction. I seem to remember there is a breakdown resistance so I am assuming my voltmeter does not have the voltage to properly measure through the diode. I did try another diode with similar results.

Does anyone have any idea why it would work on 3 out of 4 stations? Has anyone tried to connect anything than a standard J1772 to a BLINK station?

Here is the wiring diagram I followed and it seems to be limilar to others I have found.

Part of protecting the environment for me is being very considerate about my food choices. A huge chunk of our share of carbon is from what we choose to eat. I figure I am not the only Tesla owner that is an environmentalist and a vegetarian or a sustainable eater.

I hope when considering future supercharger locations, Tesla considers the dining choices for its customer base. I wrote a long blog post about this for more of my perspective. I'm interested to see if there are other voices who are interested in sustainable eating while waiting for their car to recharge.

Although Harris Ranch is the California symbol of factory farming, I recognize many other restaurants are in the same bucket although one step removed.

It is not much bigger but allows to use 3-ph current. That means 73% faster charging under 208/120 V (very common in a lot of charging stations). Of course, it supports 240 V split phase up to 125 A (almost double the usual 70 A of J1772). It also supports 140 A under DC. And with the Combo 2 plug it rises up to 200-250 A.

Model S in Europe will have this socket in the car, modified to support SC. I think it is the ideal plug... And is not too late to change the code in USA and switch to the better plug.

I was visiting Monterey today, and noted that the Chargepoint app showed two EV chargers in the parking garage for the Clement hotel.

The people that manage this garage for the Intercontinental routinely park non-EVs in the EV spots. They will tell you on the way in that "EV spots are not available." Drive around the garage and you will find why: the valets park other cars in those spaces.

I demanded they move or tow the valet vehicle and they finally relented and moved it. (I demanded on the grounds other spots were open, although that shouldn't matter.)

They claimed this affront to the EV community was "authorized by management."

I would strongly encourage all of you to not trust the status of these spots and do business with another hotel (we did.)
