Modine Manufacturing Company is very proud to be the supplier of the battery chiller on the Tesla Model S. We will be shooting a production video on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at our corporate headquarters in Racine, Wisconsin and would very much like to feature a Tesla Model S in the video. The video will be aired on television during the summer as part of a series relating to green technology. We have spoken with Tesla about this request and they are supportive. Unfortunately, though, due to the limited number of vehicles available at each dealer, they cannot provide a vehicle to us for the day. Are there any Tesla Model S owners out there in the SE Wisconsin or northern Illinois area who would be willing to provide your vehicle to us for a limited time on May 23rd? If so, please contact Francesca DeGlopper at f.e.deglopper@na.modine.com. Thank you!

I brought my car in a few weeks ago to have them address some rattles and the alignment. The alignment was very much off and the car pulled to the right, and there were intolerable rattles in the A-pillar and the B-pillar. After this, the alignment was much better, but still slightly off. The A-pillar rattle was gone, but the B-pillar rattle remained.

So, I brought it back on 5/14/2013 for another go at the alignment and noise as well as fix a suspension issue I was experiencing.

I dropped it off at 9am. Was helped by Evan, who was very professional and friendly. Took down all my complaints in a timely fashion and offered to get me a "cab" or a rental so I could get to work. Since he felt the issues would be resolved by the end of the day, I told him a cab would be fine. I handed him the fob, and a limo service picked me up and delivered me to the hospital free of charge (I did give the driver a tip, of course). At the end of the day, about an hour before closing, I got a call saying that the alignment and suspension issues were taking longer than expected, so they sent a driver from Enterprise out to pick me up and give me a rental car. Other than the security deposit, this was free of charge also. (I have to say, that getting behind the wheel of a Toyota was damn strange. Oh man, the acceleration was horrific! And, yes, when I got home, I exited the car only to realize that the key was still in the ignition and the car was running.)

I got a call mid-day today to let me know that the car was ready, and they offered to deliver it to me. That they did -- on a flatbed truck. They had washed the entire car and glossed the tires. Interior looked vacuumed as well (or maybe I'm really clean). The tow man said he wasn't instructed to bring the rental back, so a quick call to the service center was placed. "Just leave it; we'll send Enterprise out to get it tomorrow." So, the Camry sits in the hospital parking lot...lonely and used.

So, the alignment appears to be fixed. The suspension issue is fixed -- I did not have to raise my car up to get into my garage this evening. The B-pillar rattle is much better. The right front passenger door handle was replaced and appears to be working just fine now.

Service was excellent.

Adventurers of the electric highway please suggest charging options that you have used or heard of along the route 57 N from Carbondale to Chicago. I see some RV parks using all-stays but couldn't tell how conducive they would be to spend about 3-4 hrs charging with kids. Thanks in advance

I don't presume this to be the only attempt to form a statewide group, but I haven't seen one on facebook and just thought we need to have a central social media point to drop in, maybe plan an event and possibly form an actual club or organization. Pass along to any Michigan owners you may know so we can start connecting.
See you all down the road sometime.

Hello Tesla owners, this is a great forum for owners and future owners. I joined the forum for some help with my EV purchase. I had decided on Leaf, but after consultation with Leaf owners in cold climate have come to a conclusion, it may not suit my needs. I live in Michigan, with temperature below 30 F for almost 4 months in winter, with frequent dips below 20 F. I have a commute of 50 miles RT, with close to 70% of that on highways. I was told that maximum range that I should expect is 60 miles, with compromises. I may need an EV with Thermal Management System (TMS) or with bigger range. I was browsing previous posts, and was thrilled to see many owners in cold climates and some of them have also taken their Model s out for frolic in snow. These are my limitation with Leaf.

Limitations for EV use
- Frigid climate with Temprature below 30 F for 4 months, with frequent dips into 20s
- Snow covered roads for commute
- Frequent high wind days
- Daily commute of over 50 miles RT
- More than 50% on highways (mine is around 66%)
- L2 charging overnight at home only, not available at work
- Cold soaking in parking lot for over 10 hours and sometimes overnight
- Inability to trickle charge at workplace (to prevent cold soaking and preheat the car for return journey)

It seems Tesla fits the bill, however I haven't figured out how to pay it's leasing bills. I have contacted Tesla team about new leasing program, but it is still an expensive affair. Recent announcement by Elon has been positive. The nearest Tesla store is in Chicago, IL and nearest Tesla service center is in Columbus, OH. I need to know few things even before I start thinking in that direction.

(1) How to get the service? Tesla says that they will cover me with Ranger service program and car doesn't even need a service and now the service requirement has been waived off. I just wanted to ask owners how has been their experience?

(2) I have seen only one Model S in Detroit, and couldn't catch it with my ICE. But how's the battery performance in the cold weather? It has TMS unlike Leaf, so it should fair better. Most of the Model S sales are still in CA. However Tesla was at Detroit Auto Show, and they clearly want to sell their car in all climates, and are not stupid to make car only for warmer climate. They are pursuing European sales now

(3) Other question that I have is, how is it to drive in snow considering it is a rear wheel drive car? Tesla's answer was that, it should not be any problem with traction control system.

(4) If you could also post your mileage in snow, and how much degradation to expect. I will be keeping my car in parking structure for 10 hours or so, and worried about loosing a lot of range.

Thank you all in advance.

A local friend made the drive from Springfield, MO to St.Louis. He'd called ahead to the Ritz-Carelton who did not have charging prior to the call, but had a high volt outlet installed for him prior to his arrival.

In the email he sent he said it was 220v, but I'm not sure if it is that or 240v. You can call Greg in engineering before you go if you plan to use it to confirm the exact voltage and plug type.
