A123 Nanophosphate batteries (possibly for use in the GM-Volt hybrid)

Interview with CTO of A123
"Compared to Altair Nano’s system, A123’s has higher energy density. Altair Nano uses a different anode, and winds up with 1/2 voltage and twice the weight per cell."

Being considered for the GM-Volt

Compact Power http://www.compactpower.com/ got a contract from GM to develop batteries for the Volt.

Today Nissan said that it wants to develop batteries http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/070627/thail...ssan.html?.v=6

Yes... I agree that getting production quantities of batteries should be more important to GM at this point than technical superiority. They can bring in the A123s 12 to 18 months later if it works out.

Considering that GM is running radio and TV commercials NOW for the Volt -- 2 years early! -- means to me that they don't really have much of anything in their quiver to reverse their current fortunes. Releasing the Volt as soon as possible has got to be higher priority for them (assuming the Lucky Goldstar batteries work well enough...). They can improve the battery tech easily in the future.
