Austin has a very big Tesla family and I had a great time at the Roadster Rally last year. Would be great to do something like that again. Since San Antonio so close could do a combined event too. There are four Roadsters there now I believe.

Who is the TESLA dealer in Austin...One of my Dr. buds said it was Roger Beasley (sp) Porsche.....Is that true?
Wondering b/c I want to know if there will be a SuperCharger in AUSTIN when I go there on conferences with my Performance S. .. Someday......

Tesla doesn't technically have any dealerships. They call the stores similar to what Apple has done.
Tesla doesn't currently have a store in Austin, just Houston.
Tesla said they would announce their Supercharger plans in June so hopefully Texas will be taken care of.

Wanting to know if the Tesla cruise usually happens around November every year. Has it already happened this year? If not, we definitely want to be apart of the next one!

For those living in the Austin area that own Roadsters - Who do you have inspect your car every year in order to get the windshield stickers that are required in Texas?

July remember. I would be surprised if all the superchargers in the state are installed by then.

I asked GeorgeB about this on Sunday...even though Elon promised a Supercharger announcement in July, George was thinking it may well not happen that soon.
And that's just for an announcement. Putting these things in takes a lot of time and money; I doubt there will be many installed by the announcement. (I can live with not many being installed yet; but not making an announcement until long after they are asking people to commit $100k to the car is incredibly frustrating).

Yeah. Looks like I had the date wrong. From the sounds of it, it's going to be a slow rollout. Will be nice to finally get some idea of their plans.

mfarendt - Sticker Stop on 620 near Cedar Park does a great job, and is really fast. They were able to find the lack of an emissions test for a Tesla Roadster in their computer and issue the two stickers. They didn't even charge me for the Emissions test, so I've got that $14 annually defraying the cost of the car. :)

mfarendt - Any inspection station can do it. I had one of the first Roadsters in Austin, and when I showed up in 2009 at Terry's Inspection on Burnet Road, everybody gawked for a while. But my VIN showed up just fine in the Texas vehicle database, and it told them to do only a safety inspection. No problem.

Question for those that own Roadsters in the Austin area or climates similar to - Have you experienced any reliability issues with charging and battery capacity due to the high heat and humidity? I'm still "sitting on the fence" as to whether I should pursue a Roadster and want to make sure I'm making a good decision.

I've had no issues with charging. You may have problems with the AC briefly cutting out in high heat when the car prioritizes the battery over the cabin. Doesn't happen often in the 2.5s at least.
The Model S should have no problem with this.

Is it really a problem to have the cabin AC be alittle less efficient? Just drop the top and punch the accelerator? :)

Not less efficient, no A/C. The cabin fan will still run, but the coolant is diverted to cooling the battery. (happens to me all the time, especially in this heat.) This only happens for about 2-3 min, but it is quite noticeable on a hot day. The Model S doesn't do this as the battery, motor, and PEM are on different cooling loops from the cabin.

So, I have a request:
I'd like to get visual access to a local Model S for a short time.
I am also working on a center console idea, and I'd like to get an opportunity to map out the interior exact dimensions of the Model S Center Console, attachment and power points, etc. (before mine comes at the end of the year) -- I know it would only take 20-30 min or less (while you watch) and it wouldn't entail the movement of the car at all. Of COURSE they would automatically get a free console insert and I'd love to hear their opinion on what it should do and how it should look...
Also, I'd love to meet a local Tesla Model S owner and hear about their experiences, anyway.
Any chance of someone local, or someone already traveling local to North Austin, letting me buy them lunch and measure their car's center console area, at their leisure? Thoughts?

If you find yourself in Houston, you can have as much access to my Model S as you need. However, my car does not have the cubby yet. Supposedly it will be retrofitted but it isn't officially on the Due Bill.

Of course, horsepower isn’t the only thing they do big in Texas. The state gained notoriety recently for being the first to have a public highway with a posted 85 mph speed limit. The SH130 toll road between Austin and San Antonio is yours to drive your Cadillac or any other vehicle at that brisk clip for around $6.00 to drive the full 40+ mile length.
How many W per mile for sustained 85+mph?

I had great experience with Grayzer Electric (http://www.yelp.com/biz/grayzer-electric-pflugerville-2). I didn't tell him it was an EV, but instead said I wanted a NEMA 14-50 for a RV (recreational vehicle) which would visit regularly - I was concerned that there might be an EV 'premium'... YMMV.

Just returned from Austin today. The Austin Service Center now has an HPWC, and although it may not be running at full strength, I was able to charge at 47 miles per hours which is the fastest I've been able to charge so far. Lots of cars there and a large truck left as I was charging that was heading to Houston, so there should be some happy campers tonight! Even after the truck left, they still had the temporary side lot full:
