I just found: ACEA - European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (http://www.acea.be/index.php/news/news_detail/european_auto_makers_pave_way_for_uniform_system_of_e-vehicle_charging)
Nothing really new, they want to use the Type 2 (aka "Mennekes") connector to be used in Europe for public charging and later on also for home charging.
The Type 2 Combo (with DC connector) should also be supported for fast charging.
From what I understand they make no recommendation for the connector on the car, but they manufacturer should deliver a cable with which the end-user can connect it to a Type 2 connector.
They have a presentation (http://www.acea.be/images/uploads/files/20110922_ACEA_Position_Paper_on_EVs_standardisation.pdf) online with all the information, it's worth reading it!
Companies supporting this:
- BMW Group
- DAF Trucks
- Daimler
- FIAT S.p.A.
- Ford of Europe
- General Motors Europe (what!?)
- Jaguar Land Rover
- MAN Truck & Bus
- Porsche
- PSA Peugeot Citroën
- Renault Group
- Scania
- Toyota Motor Europe
- Volkswagen Group
- Volvo Cars and Volvo Group
I'm a bit surprised about GM. I thought GM was frustrating the standardization process in the USA?
But I'm really happy with this proposal
