I received mine. Pretty damn cool. Don't care that it's RC, as it will just sit on a shelf in my office.

can't wait for the S version
hmm, note it looks to be the EU version as the numberplave is extra wide :-)
My son has to wait a couple of weeks before he gets to open it...

What do you mean? The $100,000 Roadster, the HotWheels Roadster, and the Radio Controlled Roadster? or I am missing one?
Yes, that is what he meant ("matchbox" ~= "HotWheels"...)

Actually just today I found out there is 3 sizes, total of 5 models you can get;
They got HotWheels in Red (http://www.amazon.com/Hot-Wheels-First-Tesla-Roadster/dp/B002HXSGWC?&camp=212361&linkCode=wey&tag=miclinssit-20&creative=391817), Blue (http://www.amazon.com/Hot-Wheels-2008-026-Models-Roadster/dp/B0022S2EHK?&camp=212361&linkCode=wey&tag=miclinssit-20&creative=391817), and Silver (http://www.amazon.com/Hot-Wheels-2008-026-Models-Roadster/dp/B001ZRD6ZI?&camp=212361&linkCode=wey&tag=miclinssit-20&creative=391817); avalible on Amazon for ~ $10
Then the Maya Group makes a MaxTech Radio Controlled model (http://www.mayagroup.com/products/model.aspx?id=33) in two sizes: 1:10 and 1:16
Is there anyplace where I can get the Hotcars for like $2 each instead of $15; and where can I get the Maxtech cars? Right now target is sold out of the 1:16 model...
Thanks

The Roadster Hotwheels come in Orange too but you have to buy a group pack it is in with some other cars. The RC cars are planned in more than one scale but as of now just the one is available. The detail one the current one is amazing. According to my wife my Xmas gift of 4 of them is backordered!
For Hotwheels try Ebay and Target/Walmart.

That is an awesome pic! I love the size difference. I also just got done talking to Tesla and they got a limited number of RC Cars last month however they limited them to employees only. As soon as they get more of them and send them out to the stores and get retailing stuff done they will have them available for resale  They also mentioned that they might also sell HotWheels too, don't quote me on that last part tho; I can't wait to buy the RC ones from Tesla, I took your guys advice and found some HotWheels on eBay, the colors I don't have I will wait to see if Tesla gets them

I've seen them give the HWs to kids when the parents are considering purchase.
The problem is that the way Mattel sells HW. You get a big box. It's full of whatever Mattel wants to give you. Seriously. it seems you have no say. A HW retailer told me that everything sell eventually.

I'm tempted to get one of the RC models and hack it to install a Li-Ion battery!
Switching from a DC to an AC motor might be a bit more work than it is worth though
Greetings,

Someone should do one of those trick photo shots where they are all the same apparent size, side-by-side.
Please be more specific.
I think I know what they mean.
One of those perspective shots with the hotwheel very close, the RC model further, and the real car far enough back that all look the same size.
Like this sort of thing:

Yes, TEG and Dave have figured out what I meant. There's probably a technical photography term for what I have in mind, but not being much of a photographer, I don't know what to call it. I'm not even sure it's possible; the depth-of-field for such a shot would have to be very large, I'd imagine.
EDIT: maybe the term for what I'm thinking of is forced perspective (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forced_perspective).
Yes it's a forced perspective miniature. I have done it in many forms many times.
It would be an exercise that would result in a picture of three identical cars next to each other. Each one with a bit more surface detail. Ultimately not very interesting to look at.
Only exciting for the photographer that went to the trouble and few geeks that were in on the technique.

It's forced perspective (http://digital-photography-school.com/forced-perspective).
The thing they do with actors playing hobbits in some of the shots in Lord of The Rings

Must say, having had a go with one, it's a bit anemic :frown:
I was expecting something with a bit of get up and go, like my Tamiya Falcon (http://www.tamiyaclub.com/car.asp?id=56) from the 1980s (was nowhere near the fastest but probably what got me into EVs back then). In fact when I put the Roadster in performance mode and plant my right foot, I now know what it feels like to be the little plastic guy that was driving that thing .
I think there'd be a great tie up with them to make a truely fast r/c car that could stick it to the 370Z (http://www.hobbyco.net/eComm/docs/58478.htm), M3 (http://www.hobbyco.net/eComm/docs/58449.htm) and F1 (http://www.hobbyco.net/eComm/docs/58447.htm) models out there that have no right running on electrons. Some electric ones will do well over 100 mph (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6u7nUttZjZk)* but that is down to hobbyists pushing the limit. I'm sure a self-build, fast Roadster would inspire a few kids (and big kids).

At the factory tour they had a store set up. There was the usual shirts, mugs and also the RC Roadsters.
Now it looks like (http://www.chron.com/business/article/Tesla-hopes-to-generate-buzz-at-electric-car-2228971.php) the Tesla stores will be carrying the RC cars as well.
