The Associated Press: Tesla to open power train plant in Palo Alto (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gi-0dPB7q1hOHPH7pe3neDbAWLFgD9A59A101)
PALO ALTO, Calif. — Electric car maker Tesla Motors says it will open a new power train production facility in Palo Alto, Calif., helped in part by a recent award of government loans.
The company says the facility will build components for its vehicles and other automakers. The complex will also house its corporate headquarters and will employ roughly 350 people with space for up to 650.

Tesla Motors may move into Agilent space (http://www.bizjournals.com/sanfrancisco/stories/2009/08/17/daily12.html)
Electric car company Tesla Motors Inc. may be looking to lease 350,000 square feet of property once occupied by Agilent Technologies in Palo Alto, sources say.
Commercial real estate industry sources report that a deal was signed with Stanford Research Park for the building at 3500 Deer Creek Road in Palo Alto within the past 10 days. Jim Beeger, a broker with Colliers International, said Stanford Research Park had planned to tear down the structure which Tesla is moving into.

I was thinking the same thing (track) last night when the news broke about PA site. Don't know if possible but Stanford owns everything up there.

They should build a track in them thar' hills.
They did, it's called the 280 at 2am...
Now if they take over the defunct auto dealership (formerly Ford/Volvo) down the street at El Camino (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=4190+El+Camino+Real,+Palo+Alto,+CA+94306-4008&sll=37.410944,-122.124466&sspn=0.013686,0.030963&gl=us&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=17&iwloc=A) everything will be close by. (The current Menlo Park facility was supposedly a somewhat short lease in the first place).
Word on the street is that the Stanford Research Park at Palo Alto is the new home for Tesla's HQ and powertrain building facility.

Maybe they can convince PA to finally fix up Deer Creek and Arastradero? I ride there less these days due to the condition of those roads...
And Page Mill is not the best way to drive up to Skyline. (It's a great bike descent, though).
Almanac : Menlo Park tried to land Tesla headquarters (http://www.almanacnews.com/news/show_story.php?id=4699)
When Tesla Motors announced Aug. 18 that it plans to relocate its headquarters from San Carlos to Palo Alto later this year, several Menlo Park residents asked whether their city made a push for the electric car maker, which has a showroom in Menlo Park.
It did, said Dave Johnson, the city's business development manager, responding in an e-mail to one such query. Menlo Park tried to steer the automaker to a 22-acre site owned by General Motors, which had at one point planned to build an auto mall there, he said.

A key metric for batteries is "energy density," which refers to the acceleration and range the batteries can provide. Tesla claims the energy density of the Model S battery pack will exceed 135 watt-hours per kilogram.

The show ultimate factories does a lot of auto plants. The european plant workers all wear uniforms. From Ferrair to volkswagon.
US plants like Corvette and Camero have the US workers wearing "whatever".
This is an old, dated article, but still somewhat interesting:
