Not to hijack this thread, but did they say where in NY? I would love to be able to go into the city and check out the Model S. Of course if it is during the week it wouldn't work cause I can't "take off" from "work." (Used quotes cause it's not really work, but it is :p).

The tentative date I was given was a Wednesday. No word on venue yet (obviously won't the the NYIAS). Perhaps this discussion could be moved to another thread? Doug?

If that is the case I will more than likely not be able to go as I can't get off. Thanks for the info.

I believe so, but as always, drop them a line, I'm sure they're open to invites
Elon is now listed as a guest in the TV listings for the 4/29 Letterman:

Well that deserves it's own thread. Post moved.

So, any further word on where / when exactly this is happening? I'm aware of the Letterman appearance that evening ... Maybe it goes public the next day?
Oh and hello, my first post :) Been following Tesla since they went public years ago, test drove one last week, will report more some other day.

Come see the Model S in New York City
If you live in greater New York or plan to visit soon, you're in luck: The Model S will be on display Thursday, April 30 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Friday, May 1 (noon to 9 p.m.) at The Plaza Hotel (http://www.theplaza.com/), 5th Avenue at Central Park South, New York, NY 10019. This is a rare opportunity for the general public to get up close and personal with the Model S (http://www.teslamotors.com/s), the all-electric family sedan that carries up to seven people and travels up to 300 miles per charge.
Tesla sales representatives will be at The Plaza Hotel to answer questions and take reservations (http://www.teslamotors.com/buy/buyshowroom.php). Eventually we will have a Model S in all of our showrooms and at major auto shows. In the upcoming months, we'll bring the Model S to Chicago, Seattle, Miami and Washington as we prepare to open regional sales and service centers in those locations. Keep reading these newsletters for details.

Model S to appear on Late Show with David Letterman
The Model S has gotten incredible buzz (http://www.motortrend.com/features/consumer/112_0904_of_rockets_and_tesla_model_s/index.html) since its launch on March 26, when it was featured on blogs (http://www.gizmag.com/tesla-model-s/11339/), in newspapers (http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/environment/2009-03-26-tesla-sedan_N.htm?loc=interstitialskip) and on TV newscasts (http://www.ktla.com/landing_news/?Tesla-Unveils-Highly-Anicipated-Model-S-=1&blockID=250790&feedID=171) worldwide. On April 29, the Model S will make another historic debut: It's expected to be the first fully drivable car to appear on Late Show with David Letterman (http://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/late-david-letterman/tv-listings/100253).
Conventional cars and hybrids, which produce CO2 emissions, are not allowed in drivable form on the Late Show set due to strict emission regulations. The prohibition of internal combustion engine cars is an ironic twist, seeing as Dave is a passionate car enthusiast who loves to wax about his favorite vehicles – but hey, it's a great opportunity for the Model S. I'll be on the show along with the car, and I am looking forward to a lively conversation with Dave, a fellow sports car aficionado and Tesla fan (http://www.evdl.org/archive/index.html#nabble-td21537605). Please tune in on your local affiliate station to see this historic event.
I hear Tesla has "very secret" "big deal" that they're about to announce within the next few days. Perhaps it will be tonight on Letterman.

Want to place bets it's the government funding and purchase of the Whitestar plant? What else would it be?

Yeah, I don't know. It was my guess that it might get announced on Letterman (which is being taped at this very moment). Hopefully it is an announcement about gov't loans and a Model S plant which are long overdue. However, the "big deal" sounded like it might be some kind of partnership. I guess we'll find out in a few days, if not a few hours.

Elon was about to say something about Model S but was cut off by Letterman and the segment ended
Tesla buys GM?
AhhhahhHhhHaaa -- It would be cheaper than the going rate of 2 Roadsters and a Model S.

...the location of the New York store as “555 West 25th Street, it’s currently an art gallery and it’s actually going to remain and art gallery even after it becomes a Tesla’s service center. Chelsea’s not going to loose an art gallery as we go up in the world… It should open in a few months.”
Edit, it appears the address is 511W 25th, not 555...
