Huh? I don't see anything else new. . . Not since the pre-order page went up, which has been a few weeks now.

That "Awards section" just links back to the Media Coverage page. They must certainly be proud of that LA Times article. They've kept it at the top even though there are more recent articles.

TeslaMotors.com - Under Maintenance

Sorry, we're under maintenance. Please try again later!

tonybelding
03-28-2007, 05:43 PM
They are doing at least two things with the website. . . They are introducing new blog-and-comments software, and they are also introducing a customer area for those who have pre-ordered cars. The customer area will be under beta testing for a few days before it's officially opened.

There may be other changes, those are just the only ones I know about. We should find out very soon, the downtime is only supposed to be a few hours.

I'm not sure I'm a fan of this new touchy-feely "touch, feel, etc" arrangement.

WarpedOne

If that means more blog updates, I'm all for it.
But it also means it will contain a lot more information that would be harder to digg out.

vfx
03-29-2007, 04:38 AM
So it's now 4 streams of blogging instead of one.
I'm torn that it promises more-things-Tesla (which is good). On the flip side, it promises o bring more-things-Tesla (it getting hard to keep up these days!).

That new PR guy will make sure I don't have a life.

Nice!

I wonder why they waited until after the IPO to show all that?
Or maybe it was pre-shown as part of the Roadshow so some knew it was coming?

Between all these upgrades/updates and the fanfare of the IPO, I bet they get a real uptick in Roadster sales now.

I noticed a lot of typos on the site as well. Repeated words, incorrect spellings...Already emailed two of them to them, and just found another.

The website is just barely working for me, so I'll have to give up and look at it in more detail some other time. They should use a web server that can scale with the traffic.

I'm curious about the links to pages on the previous version of the site. Seems a lot of those links are broken now. They should try to find a way to map them to the updated version of the same information. Not just for us (TMC) but all the blogs that have linked to Tesla for the past couple years.

I always thought Drupal in it's later iterations is an example of a GOOD open source framework. :)
I've used that myself and it's easy to expand and modify and creates decent HTML code.

Aggh, the MILLIONS of links to Tesla's informative pages and blog posts on well-to-wheel efficiency, battery choices, charging, etc. are now broken, unless you take the time to paste them into the Internet Archive's Wayback machine.

Tesla, with aliases and mod_rewrite rules there's no reason old links have to break. I hope you resuscitate them all.

Using Firefox, there is a pop-up on the bottom to pick region.
It defaulted to UK for me for some reason, so I changed it to USA to see prices in $ and US color choices. I then tried to change it to Europe, got this message: "You are now browsing the Europe version of the site." but the site remains in USA mode with $ prices and US color choices.

Seems like there might be a problem with that region picker, possibly specific to Firefox.

There seem to be all sort of 'odd' things going on with the new site.

On some browsers I get a popup in the lower right saying "Fonts from" that can partially cover the region pop-up. If I click on it it redirects me to http://typekit.com/colophons/nkf3plp
http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=743&stc=1&d=1278086470

If you use the Roadster buy online link when you click "Continue" (to the second page) the details change, for instance a Roadster order can change to a Model S order, and the contact info can change to someone else's contact info. It is like it is pulling up details from someone else's order.

Hopefully they get this all sorted out soon.

I fully agree! As a relatively new owner, the owners section was not only full of very valuable info, it was part of what made me feel like I'd been welcomed as an insider to the Tesla family. Hmmm... growth pains, perhaps, but I hope it's not a harbinger of a change in their customer service focus now that they are a public company.

I noticed both in Firefox 3.6.6 and Chrome 6.0.427.0 Dev build that the Roadster page seems way out of alignment and the color-picker covers up the Roadster a bit. The color-picker appears when you mouseover the Roadster.

Side note: Anyone ever get hit up for gas money while driving the Roadster? I stopped to get my car 'inspected' which is required here in Texas for some reason and a guy walked up to me from the gas station a few feet away to ask questions about the car for about 5 minutes. Interesting. This version of their web site first appeared the day my Roadster was delivered (simultaneously with 2.5 announcement), so it never showed anything except "In your garage" (later "Your Roadster is delivered"). The previous version allowed me to download the manuals back when I first made the reservation. I have no idea if there is a similar feature in the new version.

Contact "Your Customer Advocate" (shown just to the right) and ask him to send you the PDF manuals.

When the website changed with the 2.5 announcement, I lost a bunch of useful information on my car. The "My Tesla" screen for me just says Welcome and Member #, no car information. The old site had my car specs. I suspect something got lost because I order my car just before the 2.5 was announced and the day of the announcement I got a phone call saying I was getting a 2.5.

On the bright side, you would have got quite a few 2.5 upgrades in your 2.0, including the new seats, sound insulation, improved PEM, improved antenna... pretty much everything that was "under the hood". All that is in my 919, I'm told.

It would be interesting to know what that would cost. You might want to ask well in advance; some time would probably be required to prepare the replacement parts. Rumor has it that you can also get the dash upgraded.
