Bill Dube commented on that video's page:

We are working on three fronts:
1) We have a sponsor building a 500 HP AC drive.
2) We have much more powerful cells coming soon from A123Systems.
3) We have more trick up our sleeves to squeeze more performance out of the DC motors.

So I guess they're switching to AC, and we can generally expect even better performance in the future :)

I met Bill Dube once, about two years ago. He certainly is very interesting.
