Indeed, but according to Autogespot - Exclusieve auto's gespot door jullie! (http://www.autogespot.com) it seems to be driving around here quite a lot.

Saw a Roadster parked here, but I was on the 5th floor. Lucky we use binoculars at work :p

I remember seeing a photo of that same Roadster in front of the Benelux store.

Good spot. The Orange has British 2011 plates too (but is LHD). Must be demo cars.

Zorba
03-02-2012, 10:39 AM
Could it be Gert-Jan Geerinckx his car? He is involved in the Eindhoven store, but lives in the UK I think.

Or not, could be demo cars as dpeilow mentioned.

Adm

They are demo cars.... I test drove a LHD 2.0 model more than a year ago and it also had UK plates. Maybe for tax reasons...

Saw someone in a light blue Roadster this morning on the WA-520 leaving Redmond heading toward Bellevue with his son in the passenger seat. I pulled up along side them in the company LEAF and waved, and then followed behind until they took a Bellevue exit.

I sighted a dark colored Roadster Christmas Eve at about 9:30 to 10:00 PM possibly black with a black roof parked on Union Ave in Cresskill NJ by the Hudson Bank across from the borough hall. I wanted to make a U turn to look at it but did not sight a place to do so.

As discussed in PM - this was almost certainly me... Just shows how busy I've been to miss that on the forum!

In other news, a guy I gave a ride to at work (actually, the Chief Engineer of our building) had previously googled my license plate and found this:

I found number 1043 in Greenwich, CT on 10 April outside of my hotel (Delamar Greenwich Harbor / 500 Steamboat RD). Apologies for the horrible picture of such a beautiful car; I had a few too many Manhattan's in me. I didn't have a chance to meet the owner, but was told he is a regular at the L'Escale Restaurant & Bar.

Always fun to happen upon another Roadster while in the Roadster. :-)

Last Wed (April 4) around 7pm I happened upon this Roadster while driving south on I5 through Camp Pendleton. Was in sight of it for about 20 miles. Sorry for the grainy pic... I was stalking it with my iphone in near dark. Whoever you are--hello neighbor!

Did it have a bunch of White Carpool stickers all over the rear and front of it? Was it a sport? If so I know that car

smoothoperator, I didn't get a good look at it, it was in the lane furthest from me, and it was blocked by another car going just about the same speed. :-(

I believe it had the darker OEM wheels. Does that make it a Sport (sorry, I'm a Model S reservation holder and I'm not as versed on the Roadsters).

Some disabilities don't really show. My wife has about 50% lung capacity so she has a disabled placard. She gets around but runs out of energy quickly. Loves the roadster. No gas fumes are a good thing for her.

Wins the prize for the worst license plate holder (http://www.pocket-lint.com/review/5860/tesla-roadster-electric-sports-car-review):

http://cdn.pocket-lint.com/images/4Lfm/tesla-roadster-electric-sports-car-review-0.jpg?20120514-091745

I'm guessing that the holder is sized for French plates but the car has Monaco plates.

Dragon
05-14-2012, 07:39 AM
The plate on my car is similar, just as small. Tesla has only this "big" size. At the rear we bolted the plate directly on the plastic of the car, cause the plate holder was ugly and sticking out 1-2 cm at the bottom.

So what's the deal with this giveaway? (could not find a TMC thread on it).

They wanted to be the biggest twitter account ever but maxed out at 8K+. Far from the millions some celbrities have. I guess giving away a car no one has heard of (relatively) is not a good incentive.

While eating lunch in Carlsbad today, I saw a greyish blue Roadster drive by. It was on Carlsbad Blvd (Coast Highway) at Carlsbad Village Drive. No personalized plates, hard top was on, not sure if it's anyone here. Dadaleus probably knows the North County Roadsters, perhaps he knows who it was.

Anyone in San Diego eat at Fidel's Mexican frequently? I've seen a roadster parked out front a few times (I think it might have been dark blue).

Could be. I've certainly been there but I haven't been in a while, although I drive around SB quite a bit. And I don't know any other twilight blue Roadsters in the area. I'll be at the Beach Grass Cafe around 9:45 this morning if you want to "sight" it. :-)

A Tesla Roadster runs on a road during an electric car rally from Tallinn to Monte-Carlo, near Tallinn June 1, 2012. The rally lasts for 10 days, during which electric cars will cross 10 countries and cover a distance of more than 3300 km (2050 miles)

My friends have begun playing a variation of the traveling gnome with my Tesla. I'm being tagged in Facebook photos of the car as they stop to pose when they see it randomly about town.

The best part is the commentary from other people that don't realize I can see their commentary.

That's THIS (http://www.teslamotors.com/enthusiasts/blog/3827) car. I don't think the owners are on these forums, but they are active in the local community. Their son works at the Tesla store, and they have a Model S reservation in the low 30's--it should be the first one in WA.

They are really nice. They will be at the Redmond Eco-Fair (http://redmondderbydays.com/) in downtown Redmond from 11-6 on July 14. (It probably doesn't count as a random sighting if you know they will be there). There is a chance they will have their Model S by then.

They said they would leave the car(s) all day, although they would only be there part of the time. Note that there's a parade before the Eco Fair, and TomSax's red roadster will be in the parade, although he's not able to do the Eco Fair. DaveD's yellow Roadster should be at both. I can't do either event this year, but yellow is already represented so that's OK.

Actually more than 20 as of yesterday - including Elon's. (The black matte is mine - just bought VIN 472.)

The green roadster there is an engineering car, pretty used and abused... especially the outside and inside. However its still running which I like to see :)

Those finger marks across on the back that wiped some of the dust were from me! The paint job on the back felt and looked like it was done with a spray can. Would be nice to just do that and not care. Pure test and utility.

"The black matte is mine - just bought VIN 472."

Andrew, why'd you put that hideous California front plate on that beautiful roadster ? ;) It looks screwed into the front bumper which I hope its not. The roadster has a screw in the front grill that comes out, there's a license mounting plate (mine was stainless steel) that was formed and fit so that no bumper drilling was needed.

That was the 1st thing I removed off the roadster, never been hassled with it or any of my other cars..... plus that stupid plate is blocking over 1/3 of the air that passes through the front radiator that's used for the AC/Cooling condenser.

I'm somehow very paranoid about getting pulled over in this car :crying:

I sold my 13-yr. old Honda S2000 to make room in the garage, and I must admit, I never put the front plates on it. Couldn't bring myself to drill the holes. Never got hassled - even one time when I was pulled over for a warning for something else.

In any case, there is no damage. I used a bracket that came with the car. Bolts into 2 existing prefab mount holes under the lip - no drilling. I may adulterate it with carpool stickers though. I've become disturbingly law abiding in my old age....

YaY! That's good to hear :)

I only have the one carpool sticker on my Roadster as well, its on the lower right corner. No issues with that.

One thing that you may want to ask Tesla for is for the Body Armor that's shaped like the car-pool sticker. This protects your paint or your 3M covering whenever you need to remove the carpool sticker. I heard one person removed part of the paint when they pulled the sticker off.

Love the Matte Black look! I'm sure I'll pass you one of these days, my roadster is my daily driver and I commute from Santa Cruz to Cupertino (passing Los Gatos) during the week.

I agree that plate ruins the look cool of the matte black. A HOV sticker can go on the back window.

No, that reservoir down there is just a remote oil reservoir for the shocks. Air suspension would have that spring visible under the upper a-arm replaced with an air-bag.

Looks like they're working with that wire and cable and had to disassemble the dash to work on it.

Now that's a cool number plate.

It is so difficult to get good ones in the UK.

My car there has my initials and two unnecessary digits (like your T23) ... did you try for that? ... at least the government "released" these inexpensive ones.

I'd paint the 2 white. Think how fast you could then go past average speed cameras!?

Now what I'd love to see is a two tone with red and black. But "wine" red.

Please give us an update in a few months and let us know how the wrap holds up (with a few miles on it)...I might add some red to mine if it holds up well...is that wrap supposed to be as durable as the paint armour?

if you don't wish to pay a big premium, the UK system of letters & numbers can be fun to play around with. Of course T3 SLA had been bought by a lucky punter already.

Jaff, I will let you know how the wrap holds up after some real world wear. It is supposed to last 3-5 years but that is a vulnerable panel. BTW, I had to remove the splitter and rear diffuser for the wrap to be applied, so I know my way around the undertray bolts now! Paint armour is less flexible and a thicker material I believe.

That is a bit tougher to pull off on a 2.0 than it is on the 1.5 front end...

Vinyl or paint?

It is meant to match company colors or is it just a color scheme that was dreamt up?

Amsterdam must be big on Roadsters.

The Netherlands has some very interesting tax advantages for EV's and Amsterdam added some extra: €15k (about $18k) subsidy on the buying price (half of the extra cost of an EV with a maximum of €15k), free parking and free charging. Amsterdam has taken all these advantages away now and is focusing on electric taxi´s.

Yes, EV adoption in Amsterdam is high.

Nope, it belongs to a company called The New Motion. They help people get EV's, get government stimulus. They are working on a CHAdeMO network in the Netherlands, but also cooperate with Opel to promote their own 230V/16A charger in the Netherlands.

From all the Dutch Roadsters with corporate graphics on the sides, I gather the incentives for corporations to buy (or lease?) them is more attractive than other places.
It seems in Holland and Germany the ratio of corporate owned (compared to private owned) is high.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the tax structure in many European countries made the personal income tax rate very high for a monetary increase but no tax for a company car, so many companies purchase expensive cars for their employees to use rather than raise their pay (which would mostly get taxed away).

Generalizing about EU tax rates is difficult....but, in general(!) the private mileage incurred in a company car is taxed as a benefit in kind. Some countries have beneficial rates for EV's. The reason that company cars become quite common in some countries is partly tradition (it has always been a part of the remuneration package) and partly because it enables the employee to have a better car than they would probably otherwise have been able or willing to afford. (I once had a McLaren SLR as a company car, but I would never have purchased it for myself). BTW, some countries also require minimum amounts of business travel using the car.

You gathered correct. Corporately bought, a Roadster comes down to 40-50k or something. It saves a buyer:
- 19% VAT
- 35-50% (income) tax
- €15-20k environmental subsidies
- in the early years the city of Amsterdam had an additional €15k tax incentive

Also, when you (your company) normally buys a corporate car and you drive it for private purposes you are taxed 14-25% of the sticker price of the car, giving a net cost of around 5-12% of the sticker price (yearly!). Not so for EVs.

Was downtown at Santana Row on Friday and took advantage of Tesla's free charging stations and spotted this silver roadster with a light blue mismatched color hardtop. When I was pulling out, two model S's were pulling in (Tesla Employees) and the silver roadster moved to allow them in the charging stations. Was an older guy in the roadster with a beard, possibly a Tesla worker... don't know. Really don't like the planter boxes there, someone's going to do some good damage to their Tesla with those things there... way to low and hard to see when pulling in / out of the charging stations. While I was leaving I swapped out my soft-top for the Taylor Mesh Top and the Telsa Employee took notice and had a big smile on his face giving compliments :)

The owner had crashed his old Tesla and got the new silver one - he kept the roof of his old car so that's why the color is mismatched.

We made a U-turn headed back up, made the corner and stopped in traffic so I could gawk and holler, "Nice Roadster!" The driver gave me a thumbs-up (at least I hope it was a thumbs-up) and said something that sounded like, "Thanks".

Dang, I wish I could have taken a photo. Saw a red and black Roadster Sport with it's ragtop on this afternoon around Gurnee, IL. I was heading into Waukegan when I spotted the Roadster coming off Ruth Wilcox Ave, turning west onto Route 120 toward Grayslake. I turned around and headed back to see if I could catch it at a light. Sure enough, it was one car length ahead at O'Plane Road. Odd thing was the driver seemed to ease on the accelerator and never exceeded 45 MPH in a 55 zone. Then the driver pulled over at Hanlon Road as if they were going to turn left. I passed and circled back at River Road, but they had pulled back onto 120 and were now in the right lane driving cautiously again. Made me think this was a test drive or they were lost.

Strange that I should spot two different Roadsters less than a month apart from each other. A friend of mine had also reported seeing a red Roaster up around Gurnee several months back, and I wonder if this was the same one.

One nice thing of the white on the roadsters is that you don't have to really have paint armor, from what I've seen, the primer / undercoat of the CF panels is white. No touch up paint nor armor really necessary. All my road chips show a white undermask of the paint.

This might seem insignificant to folks in the USA, but there are only a dozen or two RHD Tesla's in the entire UK, so passing one whilst driving another is a very rare occurrence over here ! Its also the first time I've ever seen another in the wild in the UK.

I didn’t recognise the car, registration or owner though, and as far as I know he is not active on the forum.

I can't be certain of the exact split between LHD / RHD, but last time I discussed it with anyone at Tesla UK, I think they said there's about 75 UK registered Roadsters from 2008 onwards.

I've got a folder on my PC full of photos / webshots of various UK cars, and loosely speaking about 2/3 rds show LHD cars with 2008/9/10 year plates on them.

I think RHD cars only became available in mid 2010 or thereabouts, for the UK, Hong Kong, Japan and Oz markets.
