Yes, if you were in the Tesla, you'd just floor the accelerator when you saw the flag. Some cars with electronic shifters are pretty fast, though. The Ferrari 430 Scuderia (shown in the recent Top Gear episode) supposedly shifts in 0.06 seconds, 0 to 60 in 3.5 s.
