Retrofit new rear motor to the previous Model 3 Performance

What's new about the highland driveunit? I see its "new" but unsure what that looks like.

Getting highland vented/cooled seats for the model Y

Yes, the cooling would be great even if a switch is needed, but its the seat I'm after. Need the Recaro vibe.. @E90alex

Getting highland vented/cooled seats for the model Y

I'm curious as well. Here's why, 2024 Model 3 Performance Sport Seats (Highland). We need a photo of the highland seat connectors to compare to the legacy cars.

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

I already had Tein suspension when installing them. EDIT to my previous post, the steering feel issue was due to "toe out" after installing the arms. With the toe aligned to "toe in" it handles great.

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

Update: After 1000+ miles, on center steering feel seems to have been reduced. Ride quality is improved a bit.

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

Compare both catalogs and see if the mounting and hardware are the same. Seems like they kept whatever they could the same to save money on tooling among other things.

Rear Door Glass Tempered vs Laminate

Hard to tell from the photos but looks like they may have put a double pane window on his car. Or is the outside pane made from glass and interior is plastic/laminate? (rear windows) Suggests they're interchangeable.. Can someone check the parts catalog and see if any of the numbers on the...

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

The only geometry change im aware of is the hubs.

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

The highland parts had different part numbers on one of the larger bushings and I think the manufacturing location might be different. I have side by side photos pending upload.

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

The 2024 Highland Front Compliance Links, and Front Lateral Links are now installed on my 2018. They're nearly identical to the 2018 part. Seems to handle rough roads and sharp bumps better (expansion joints) but otherwise the same. No issues with alignment yet but I may check front toe.
  12. DeepBlue3

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

I ordered item 2 and 1 from the diagram above which appears to be the 2024 highland car. I'm going to try replacing the set on my 2018 car with them. They generally look the same as the 2018 part, just smoothed out maybe to aid in releasing from the mold for manufacturing. The bushings look...

    Tein flex Z awd

@ bmwmkc323i The rear "mid setting" was 8 clicks out from full clockwise (in), and about 15 out for the front. You have 0-16 clicks. 0 is all the way in or down and full stiff. 16 is all the way out - full soft. Turning them out (counter clockwise) past 16 clicks can damage them. You're...

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

I was about to order a set of front lower control arms. That's two compliance arms and two lateral links. $360 for the highland parts but I'm wondering if they'll fit. Visually they look the same just better bushings and more refined. Unfortunately they altered the geometry of the front hubs so...

Where did you put the o ring? I dont see it.
  16. DeepBlue3

    Tein flex Z awd

You don't need the M3 Perf. front sway bar. Even with the Tein's set to the soft end, the car turns in well. @rayray3

    Tein flex Z awd

I just installed the RWD version my Long Range RWD and they're great. @huyzee How low are you? I heard some minor binding near the Tein recommended settings but nothing yet at max ride height. I have a 2018 model and the suspension was overly stiff, even after 130k miles. The rear seemed about...

Do you change all 4 tires on a RWD Model 3?

..and the "worn" engine oil accelerates the wear on the engine. Worn tires don't "wear" the car much.

Water in trunk. Like inside the metal trunk body panel...

I had the same issue. Likely the two or more "layers" of the trunk/deck lid are not sealed well. If you work around the edges of the trunk (looking up with the lid open, especially near the tail lights, you'll likely see small holes in the sealant. I used black silicone to lightly dab over any...

Do you change all 4 tires on a RWD Model 3?

I suggest measuring near each shoulder and near the center so you can understand if the tread is wearing evenly across the tread width. You can use the measurements to diagnose alignment wear and catch issues before they create a noisy - unevenly worn tire. If the outside edge is worn more it...
  23. DeepBlue3

Do you change all 4 tires on a RWD Model 3?

I can replace them as an axle set, 2 tires as needed. I think you're talking about uneven wear across the tread, like alignment wear?
  24. DeepBlue3

Do you change all 4 tires on a RWD Model 3?

Figure I'd be on my 26th tire rotation with a 5k interval. Seems excessive.
  25. DeepBlue3

Do you change all 4 tires on a RWD Model 3?

After 14k miles on OEMs, I started looking for a new set. I think the regen results in the rear wearing almost twice as fast if you drive fast-er. AWD cars have more regen however.

    Upper Control Arm Creak Options

"J" should be correct based on the parts catalog ( did more research since posting). The example posted looks like the Chinese made version. Note the black weight still bolted to the arm. The Meyle's are almost 2 pounds lighter (700 grams), and don't have the black weight bolted on. Seems like...

    Upper Control Arm Creak Options

Update from Post #57 in May: Still in the lower 120k mileage range. Noise started coming back when coming to a stop and taking off. No signs of the old grease leaking out. Added more grease, removed the T50 bolt and moved the ball joint around and the noise is mostly gone. Note, there is a hole...

    Model 3 Performance Springs OEM

Why aren't the Performance springs compatible with the LR RWD? I believe the LR RWD uses AWD springs.

    Upper Control Arm Creak Options

I greased mine with Silicone grease a year ago at the first sign of a squeak. I'm now at 121,000 miles and no issues. I checked a few months ago and there was a suspension or halt of some sort on the TSB for "sealing" the control arm. That probably means it didn't work.

2018 Model 3 LR RWD Charging limited to 32 amps?

Yeah, same here. 2018 LR RWD charges as fast as a Dual Motor, 32 amps on the mobile connector and 48 on a destination or home charger.

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

Yeah its pretty sketch.. The sub-par solder connection (bottom) could come off and short to the positive terminal. Technically that voids the Tesla warranty. The BMS is just chillin' on top to wiggle around and weaken the solder connections. Was the heatsink mounted to the lid? There's glue...

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

I'm noticing higher voltage on 2022.28, and the battery doesn't appear to be discharging down to 13.1 as it previously did. I saw 14.7v and it stabilized around 14.5-14.6. On earlier software it would be 13.1 when driving and up to 14.1 or so after charging. I'm using scanmytesla for the...

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

Do you know what the actual usage is between charge cycles? Whether in Ah or Watt/hours. Would like to know how much power is consumed from 14.15v to 12.6 or when the charge cycle restarts.

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

The under capacity sealed lead acid threw a few VC Front codes after about a day. I'd guess it went through a few quick discharge/charge cycles and flagged it.
  40. DeepBlue3

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

There's a chance it could be related to the float voltage like mentioned above. Also a chance its the discharge curve. I'm currently running a tiny motorcycle battery to see if the capacity "loss" results in an error message or if the float and discharge characteristics are accepted.
  41. DeepBlue3

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

The point is, we're doing R&D work. I build these for fun so I have parts laying around. The lead acid I'm using has an effective capacity of approx. 65 w/hr, so it doesn't take much more from the LiPO to reach the capacity target. I'm not aware of any LiFePo4 BMS that can take over approx...
  42. DeepBlue3

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

I'm estimating 30% SOC remaining at ~14 volts on the LiPO and I haven't seen it going over 14.3. Cut off is 10 volts. The lead acid helps mimic the original battery chemistry ( I hoped) and will still power the car incase of a BMS fault. 500 watt hour estimated capacity (full discharge depth.)...
  43. DeepBlue3

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

@ElectricLove What is the source of the alerts? Is the car not happy with the discharge curve? Is it the calculated capacity? Is the BMS falling asleep, or voltage surges causing BMS faults? Maybe the chemistry is causing unusual float voltages etc.? What capacity are you targeting...

    Tesla Parts Catalog, E1, E2, E3? Nomenclature/models

I'm looking at suspension parts in the Tesla catalog and I'm trying to understand what these model designations are. RWD E1D, PDM E3 etc. There's also an E2. Anyone understand what that is? I saw EVMike talking about the E number designating the battery pack size but that wouldn't make sense in...

Using front coil springs from 2022 cars on 2018 model?

I'm looking to swap my front springs (2018 LR RWD) with parts from a SR+ or similar. I've located a set from a 2022 RWD car, but I'm unsure if they're compatible with the earlier cars. Reason? It appears Tesla may have used the AWD springs on the LR RWD, resulting in overly stiff/harsh front...

    Supercharger - Basking Ridge, NJ

East Brunswick Supercharger is active. I verified its operation last Friday. The street lights were not working yet, so it was a bit eerie but it does in fact work. Basking Ridge will be much closer to me so I'm patiently anticipating the opening.
