National Construction Code consultation and impact on EVs

Oh lovely! I’m in the middle of a Strata project to install charging for a basement car park of a large apartment building with 155 parking spaces. Will make the next meeting interesting.

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

I think 250Kw relates to the capacity of the charger, not sure what the max charge rate for Model 3 (LFP) but others may know. Initial state of charge, the temperature of the battery, ambient temperature, capacity of the site and number of other cars charging at the site can all make a...

I think I have to agree that everything that could be said about the Supercharger team sackings has been said. So I will be reserving the right to delete any more comments on that subject going forward. I’m not going to create a new thread specifically for that topic here as it’s not an...

    Service Notifikation, car won’t drive

The battery location on earlier Model S is different to the later models shown in the video. It’s somewhat harder to remove and replace as it’s is buried further back adjacent to the firewall. I had my 12V battery replaced by Tesla and it was no more expensive than any other mechanic, plus they...

    Superchargers in Australia

Unpopular opinion: I think the last industry we should be relying on to build out public DC charging is the Fossil Fuel Industry. I’m not even all that comfortable with Evie which is partially owned by a coal Barron Trevor St Baker. They will make sure it’s never ‘too’ successful to threaten...

LFP battery - how often is too often to charge?

I keep my cars for an average of about 12 years so intend to keep it for a while longer. If I have to replace the battery I will just add another couple of years beyond to make up for the cost of the replacement. I’m at 250,000Km (circa 150,000 miles) but the car is holding up very well both...

LFP battery - how often is too often to charge?

I have charged my original NMC battery from about 40% to 90% with infrequent top ups to 100%, perhaps every 3 to 4 months depending upon need. It’s only been below about 30% a few dozen times, so after 8.5 years I’m getting about 12% degradation. From my experience you can over think the top end...

    Superchargers in Australia

I was involved in the transfer of the Motor Vehicle Database from BONUS to Huon for Car insurance and CTP. But that’s not what got me removed. But that’s off topic so I’ll stop here. Superchargers in Australia

I worked at NRMA during the whole demutualisation process. Everyone had to reapply for their job and in my case I was unsuccessful and was the reason I left. P.S. If anyone received an NRMA car insurance renewal with a zero agreed value, I know exactly why and it was despite my attempts to...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

my 9.5 years old Model S has just had its MCU upgraded to V2. So the support is there to some extent. I never expected that new features like FSD or Sentry would be rolled out to all cars regardless of age. The only complaint I have is that 4G coverage is no where near as good as the 3G...

Danger/long term issue if battery goes flat?

Generally if a battery goes below 20% for a long period of time you can expect some acceleration of degradation. If it goes below about 10%, I would call the repairer and ask them to put it on charge overnight.

Would you recommend Tesla Model 3 for a P plater?

The standard RWD is P Plate legal. It will come down to the cost of insurance and your willingness to pay a high premium for the first few years. For what it is, it’s good value, now the prices have dropped and other running costs are low. If you intend to keep it for a long time I think it...
