    Help adjusting coilovers

Most garage floors are not really flat. At least mines not. I feel that using the fixed points of the damper are better for a home setup than the ground clearance as it has a lot of stacking tolerances. Ground should be checked to make sure it's in the range you want. I personally had all...

    Help adjusting coilovers

Adjusting 1 corner affects the other 3. Then you need to put the car down and move it around to settle the suspension. Even if you don't adjust it, just lifting moving and remeasuring will change you measurements. It's simply not repeatable unless you have it on posts instead of wheels and...

    Help adjusting coilovers

I went down this rabbit hole and there are just too many variable that change for ride height to be a good balancing tool. Bushing flex, chassis flex and suspension bind all make it a moving target. Alignment is changing with adjustments too and effects the height. I would personally even...

    Help adjusting coilovers

Chasing the ride height is a fools errand. Let's assume your springs aren't terrible and are similar enough to not matter side to side. First set the total length to the required setting. Then measure the thread gap to the adjuster and set them the same side to side. If the front or rear needs...

Range loss from wider not taller wheels/tires?

Wider wheels can improve aero by giving the tire a rounder edge. light weight increases range, while an open face decreases it.

Fix 2017 Model X suspension issues, or trade in for a new Y?

Your car probably doesn't need that expensive of repairs and an independent shop should be able to fix it for much less. But that requires finding a reputable one and forming a relationship with them if you want to keep the car. Do you use FSD and free charging? It has Zero value to Tesla as a...

Alignment numbers on My Model S

Rear toe should be in or -.20. The red bar is wrong. I too prefer and recommend -.05 to .00 toe in all the way around.
  16. Sweed269

Alignment numbers on My Model S

You have a lot of camber in the rear and the toe looks okay. Fixing the camber takes aftermarket parts. The rear inner edge is going to wear at an accelerated rate.
  17. Sweed269

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

A stretched tire should have significantly less side to side movement under changes in cornering loads. The inner sidewalls relative to the load is already near at max stretch and the outer sidewall has to extend up against the downward pressure of the car stabilizing it. If the rim in narrow...

Newer Ohlins TES MX00S1 on my 21 MYP, review lite.

I would 100% recommend the street kit unless you are building a track car or want to run more than 10mm less than stock height. Stock springs where sized wrong and had absently zero preload capacity. This gave you only shock length to adjust ride height. It was a very compromised setup with no...

    Model Y Rear Sway Bar

Balance is very good, but a little less understeer would be nice. I want less coupling of the front wheels for a more independent front end.
  20. Sweed269

Newer Ohlins TES MX00S1 on my 21 MYP, review lite.

I have swift springs. My kit started life as a R/T and used a 178mm rear spring. But it ran out of preload and I swapped to a 203mm spring. The front needs a 254mm at 7k and longer if you go to 6k. I had to stick with the adapters that came with the kit. If you get it from Redwood, they can...

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

The stock bottom out is the same between all the versions of a specific model. It's usually a mechanical limit. The front of both the 3 and Y have very limited extra travel but the rear you can add 10mm+ to with aftermarket suspension, but at a risk of battery damage. The right way to lower...

    Better than Redwood Motorsports?

What version do you have? and what spring rates? Stock "Comfort suspension" is terrible IMO. I have tried the stock 2023 MYP comfort, 2024 LR, RT and Street versions of Ohlin's and several different spring combos. Redwood cloud spec should = Ohlin's street damping. Near perfect over...

Ohlins Road & Track Suspension different versions

I would like to clarify that the bump stops stay in the same place regardless of shock stroke. You should always set your bottom out travel to factory levels or slightly below in the rear. Longer stroke gives you more droop which is a good thing and keeps the wheels on the ground. The new...

Why didn't Tesla offer a non-stagger wheel option for the MYP?

For emergences you need to know your car's limits and how it will respond. For the most part all stock cars under steer. Tiress are source of endless debate. I was making generic statements.
  27. Sweed269

Why didn't Tesla offer a non-stagger wheel option for the MYP?

The only time it matters on the street is in an emergency, Then you really need to know what the car is going to do. Every driver should tests the limits of handling and braking in a safe environment, as it could save your life one day. Tire setup is very car specific. Even more so if you...

Why didn't Tesla offer a non-stagger wheel option for the MYP?

Balance has nothing to do with the drive wheels. It's chassis and suspension setup. Most driver suck and need understeer to save them from themselves. All my cars for the last 30 years have been setup neutral at the limit. This includes my MYP.
  29. Sweed269

Why didn't Tesla offer a non-stagger wheel option for the MYP?

Square is better for all of those on a 50/50 balanced AWD car.
  30. Sweed269

Why didn't Tesla offer a non-stagger wheel option for the MYP?

Gemini where used and cheap. I got 1700 of the 21s new take offs. I'm in the bay area California so there are 20 plus sets for sale driving the price down.
  31. Sweed269

Why didn't Tesla offer a non-stagger wheel option for the MYP?

I hate the 21s. Took them off ASAP and sold them. Running Gemini with ps4as tires. Huge improvement in ride, handling and acceleration. Win win win It's ridiculous that they don't offer 19s stock

MASTER THREAD: Comprehensive Road-Course Modification Guide — Optimizing the 3 for the track

I haven't really pushed my car to the limit as all of my driving has been on back roads. I have a track day lined up for later this month and will still not be pushing the absolute limits. It will be as fast as I can while managing the thermals of street tires, stock brakes, no extra cooling...

Help me decide Model 3P or Model YP

Both Y and 3 have great suspension geometry. The stock springs are way too soft and the the dampers are not tunned very good. The new new M3p should be much better. My MYp feels too fast around town (instant speed ticket) and is way better to live with as a daily. It does "need" a coilover...

MASTER THREAD: Comprehensive Road-Course Modification Guide — Optimizing the 3 for the track

Strong regen requires you to manually blend the brakes with the throttle regen. You need to left foot brake and then it feels natural and it makes me faster. If I was not using both feet and only the right for both, then I'd want less regen. Too much regen would over slow you during feet...

model Y performance shocks and springs on LR

It should. everything else is basically the same. I wouldn't spend money on tesla shocks as they are very low end. Get some koni active for about the same new price.

    Tighten your lug nuts

This not a Tesla problem, this is a car problem. I know of several people that have lost wheels after service(not teslas). I always double check mine after they have been removed with a calibrated wrench, even I watch someone else do it. I also nut and bolt my car before track days. To me...

Long Term Battery Costs, Fears, and Serviceability

I keep mine at 55% and plug in every night. If I need to heat/cool then it pulls from the grid. If for some reason I need more range I pull up the app and charge it for my longer trip. Easy peasy.

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

Proper suspension transforms a car. I built in the price of adding it, as I couldn't live without it. Of course my last 5 car's have all had modified suspension so it's something I care about. Just like a good sound system. Never had a car without a sub.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

This car with it's current battery and motors won't ever have more peak power. They can and probably did optimize the launch and mid speed power drop off. I feel it's worthy of the badge, but it's purely a marketing thing. there will 100% never be a software unlock for more power. It is also...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

You should get a choice. If it's winter, then you don't want summer tires. The main reason they only put on summer tires is for review testing. They used the car as delivered and summer tires make it "faster". Smaller 19's should be an option too. It's not even hard as they already have them.

    Replacement Tires for 19" wheels

    Model Y Rear Sway Bar

I want a smaller front bar. Might switch to a non performance one. Running 7k front and 11k rear springs at stock performance height. Balance is very good, but would prefer less side to side rock on rough roads.
  48. Sweed269

Help me decide Model 3P or Model YP

The model Y is much easier to get in and out of. It has a ton more rear seat space and extra cargo room. With a proper suspension it will match a model 3 performance on the street. Overall if you need to put people in the back or don't want to bend down to get in, the Y is a much better daily.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Springs and shocks will most like be identical and there will be no limits as to what you can do. The electronics will need to be fooled with a resister or maintaining the electronic part of the adjuster. I'm 99% sure all current aftermarket suspensions will bolt right up with no...
