FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

"Phantom speed limit signs" seem to be caused by FSD reading signs with numbers where the first two digits end with a 5 or a 0 as speed limit signs. I encounter them often on US 15 and US 209, as well in other random places. Very annoying and potentially dangerous. Maybe someone at Tesla is...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Today's 330 mile trip using FSDS was great, except for the parts that were terrible. All of the terrible parts seem to be due to FSDS reading route signs as speed limits. Driving on or near US 209 FSDS would sometimes set the speed limit to 20, presumably because it was reading some 209...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

12.3.4 was a step backward for me. On a roundabout that 12.3.3 would enter smoothly and try to take the wrong exit, 12.3.4 put on the left turn signal as it prepared to enter the roundabout. I disengaged FSD since I was afraid of what it might do
  4. L

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

No. At first I thought I had accidently disengaged FSD, but it was still engaged. Later on I was following a car that was driving close to the white and occasionally going onto the shoulder, and my car, instead of staying centered in the lane, was also staying close to the white line , but...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Notable events on today's 360 mile drive using 12.3.3. In general better than previous drives, but --On US 15 in PA/MD most of the time it would set the speed limit to 15 MPH when it passed a US 15 sign, and set it back to the correct speed when it passed a real speed limit sign. --Also on US...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Just went out to the car to see if the Software tab would prompt a software update and after waiting what seemed like tens of seconds the car started updating from 2023.44.30.25 -> 2024.3.10 . Model S refresh with FSD, HW3, and USS. I have to drive 360 miles tomorrow, about 280 on...

    FSD Beta v11.x

You are "supposed" to keep checking your mirrors when driving ( i.e. that is what I was taught and do). That said, one thing this forum has taught me is that there is a lot of variability in driving styles. It would be nice if the car told you what it thinks you are doing wrong. My car now...

Cyber(nota)truck even more Not a truck than I first thought

Many less affluent tradesmen drive old minivans (cheap) and SUVs. There really aren't that many situations where you have to have a "real" pickup truck

I got a very unfair third strike that I do not understand. Please help.

I had the exact opposite experience. The first 3.5 years, 50K miles I was constantly getting strikes, with a close to 100% false positive rate. Yes, I always kept my hands on the steering wheel. Then starting last spring I would only get nags if I looked at the screen for too long, i.e. false...

    FSD Beta v11.x

For many of us the sensor rarely detects anything, so there are (or were) constant nags. I used to get constant nags. Now that the cameras are used, I rarely get nagged. And I keep my hands on the wheel 99.9% of the time.

    v11.4.7 (2023.7.30) auto-wipers seem drastically worse

Auto wipers didn't work in the rain all day yesterday, but worked perfectly in the rain at night. 2023.27.12
  12. L

    FSD Beta v11.x

Maybe they think the current code works as well or better than the old code? We beta testers have no visibility into what Tesla thinks does or doesn't work, or how well it works, or how they decide if something works.
  13. L

    v11.4.7 (2023.7.30) auto-wipers seem drastically worse

Yes, the auto wipers on my 3 and then S worked fine for at least 2 years, and now they never turn on when it is raining. I assumed this would be fixed quickly, but several updates later they still don't work
  14. L

How many of you will/may transition to CyberTruck?

Yes, we had one. It made parking much easier, but was disconcerting at first. And it was all mechanical, not electric.
  15. L

    FSD Beta v11.x

This was my experience with my Model S until I had 4 strikes even though I always kept my hands on the wheel. Since then (10K+ miles ago) almost no nags, warnings, etc. and no strikes. I don't think I'm doing anything different. My theory is that car now uses the cabin camera more than wheel...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Where I am there are lots of road that go from 55 and safe to drive at 65 to 35 and not safe to drive much faster, i.e. from rural roads with good shoulders to narrow roads in small towns with lots of parked cars, pedestrians, traffic, etc. Not safe to slow down gradually. Autopilot slows down...

Autopilot constantly moving out of right hand lane

Yes, I think that I will do. Fortunately I usually take a rest stop before I start that part of the trip so easy to switch profiles
  18. L

    FSD Beta 10.69

I find FSDb is much better than AutoPilot on two lane blacktop with the occasional traffic light. NoA and FSDb work well for about 300 miles of a 350 mile trip I take several times a month. FSDb remains not so great in small towns and on one 4 lane road. Probably need to disable FSDb before I...

Autopilot constantly moving out of right hand lane

Auto lane change is set to confirm. Unfortunately FSDb ignores that setting. On this particular road the car keeps switching from FSDb to NoA and back since parts of it aren't limited access.
  20. L

    FSD Beta 10.69

Any good ways to discourage FSDb from "moving out of rightmost lane". Twice today it tried to move into the left lane cutting off a car that was about to pass me. I managed to stop it the second time, but it probably startled the other driver. Oddly, it only seems to happen on one road that...

Autopilot constantly moving out of right hand lane

The moving out of rightmost lane behavior seems to be very aggressive in FSDb 25.2. Not a problem when there is no traffic, but twice today it tried to pull in front of a car in the left lane that was about to pass me. I was only able to stop it once but even then it must have looked very...

Have you lost faith in Tesla?

Right, I had a hard time believing this Spitfire windshield wiper story. Who ever heard of a Spitfire starting when it is raining? :D
  23. L

Have you lost faith in Tesla?

My understanding is that Musk wanted Tesla to make sure that other manufacturers couldn't undermine Tesla by restricting Tesla's access to various OEM parts. In the case of the windshield wipers, by using Tesla software to control the wipers, he eliminated one of the many possible choke points...

    FSD Beta 10.69

Before I had a Tesla I never realized how dangerous and important orange cones are. My car evaluates all orange objects, and declares many but not all of them orange cones. The other day I noticed it was visualizing orange cones on the other side of a jersey barrier in a construction area...
  25. L

    FSD Beta 10.69

Yes, and there are only a few turns on the trip, most of which are either tricky, or I know will give the car (and humans) problems. For example, one is a very tight right turn that has a "no turn on red" sign. The light seems to always be red, so the car will try to turn when it shouldn't...
  26. L

    FSD Beta 10.69

I don't think so, at least not for all of the trip. A combination of NoA, FSD, and a bit of AP (not sure why). Lots of good FSD stuff was happening, like obeying traffic lights, letting me go more than 5 mph over the speed limit, and random lane changes (I have automatic lane changes turned...

    FSD Beta 10.69

First long (330 miles) drive with latest FSDb. It was great! It was terrible! It is a great TACC + lane keep system, and it can change lanes with the press of a button on the yoke. Big roads, little roads, windy roads, hilly roads, it would slow down to a sensible speed on curves if needed...

    TESLA UI / UX

I don't understand why critical alerts et al are in small red type at the bottom of the screen. For example, if it thinks you aren't paying attention, why not display in big friendly letters before it kicks you out of Autopilot?

Yolk turn signal button issues. Does not register a click.

Yes, I am hoping it is just user error, but today it seemed like the button area wouldn't move at all when I pressed it, almost like it was stuck "down" (or maybe up?)
  30. L

Yolk turn signal button issues. Does not register a click.

Did you end up having to get his fixed? At first when this happened to me I thought I was pressing in the wrong spot, but today it definitely didn't work for one right turn, was fine for the next right turn

Anyone experienced a complete fsd refusal to drive on the 10.69 builds?

Bad map data? On a previous build there was one lane on one road where FSDb did this. As best I could tell it thought it was a left turn lane that had ended or was about to end. It doesn't do it on that road in the 10.69 build
  33. L

Have you lost faith in Tesla?

I don't have much faith in Musk. Tesla needs leadership that can take it from being a hobby shop to a mature business without losing what makes Tesla's cars great. Could happen. Steve Jobs v1.0 -> John Sculley was a disaster, while Steve Jobs 2.0 -> Tim Cook has been a great success

How is my '22 MSLR in the snow?

The Continental all seasons worked well on my long uphill gravel driveway when it was covered with a few inches of snow and some ice. Being able to raise the car also helped. Of course if I expected to have to routinely drive on snow covered roads I would want real snow tires
  35. L

Poll: Will hands free driving be a big win for Tesla?

Eliminating the nag != hands free driving. In 3+ year of Tesla ownership I have found the nag has a near 100% false positive rate for me, and reduces my ability to pay attention to traffic. I keep my hands on the wheel close to 100% of the time when using AP, NOAP, and FSDb
  36. L

Was I just able to "nudge" an update to my car?

My recent experience is that if you go to the software tab it will display something like "checking for updates..." and after a short amount of time it will either start downloading an update or say something like "software is update as January 2, 2023". No need to do anything else. This...

    FSD Beta 10.69

Does it stay in its lane on marked, winding roads? And on marked, winding, hilly roads? I just got .25.1 after 4 months without FSDb (new car) and I remember FSDb being terrible on that type of road in 12.3.20. Overall 25.x does seem to be much better than 12.3.20 in the few miles I have used...

Car won’t take charge on airport 120V

They changed this at some point? The owner's manual for the refresh S says Charge Port Light • WHITE (OR LIGHT BLUE): The charge port door is open. Model S is ready to charge and the connector is not inserted, or the charge port latch is unlocked and the connector is ready to be removed...

NO Tesla Super Chargers on New York Thruway

Hope you and your family are okay. The New Paltz and Kingston chargers are easier to get to, and New Paltz is 250kW. I think there is an old NYS regulation that says only chargers without proprietary connectors can be installed on the Thruway. The reg dates back to the time when "everyone...

    Elon & Twitter

Public health policy has been neglected for decades, i.e. since 1980. Elections are the way to change these things. We as a nation seem to lack the knowledge and political will to do much about it. Maybe if COVID had killed 10 million instead of "only" one million we would behave differently?

    FSD Beta 10.69

Whenever someone says they have no problem with the Driver Monitoring System, I think of this Mrs. Hard. You must learn resignation, my dear; for though we lose our [FSDbeta and Autopilot], yet we should not lose our patience. See me, how calm I am. Miss Nev. Ay, people are generally calm...

Have any new testers with a safety score above 80 received the FSD Beta 10.69.2.2 update yet?

This has happened to me twice since August 10. Currently once again in the queue with Safety Score of 93 running 2022.36.6, hoping this time I will stay in the queue until I get FSDb

2021+ Model S and Model S Plaid Refresh Issues Thread

Not sure if this is unique to Model S refresh, but it didn't happen with my Model 3... Since getting my MS in August I have twice requested FSD beta, and both times the request was canceled after several days. That is I made the request, was able to obsess over my Safety Score for a few days...
