Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Agreed. Elon tweeted a few weeks ago “Tesla prices must change frequently in order to match production with demand.” So demand must be much higher than production rn, and then demand tails off as the fall/winter comes but production remains constant.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Ooof. $54,990 Must be crazy demand rn. Hoping for some price drops at the end of the year to get ultra red back under $55k!

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Maybe a dumb question, but does changing the wheels to a non staggered setup affect anything on the car? Alignment?

    You’ll get 1 of 2 if you’re patient lol

Boat boat boat. I’ve started something here folks 🛳️🛳️🛳️

    Medium boat obviously 😁

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

MS is a large boat, M3 is small boat. Plan accordingly. Brand new M3P every day for me over a used, old MS. MS is starting to look dated also, needs a refresh soon.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I think 300 miles at 70 mph (in decent weather) is bout the max you’ll get 100 to 0

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

The battery is the limiting factor in the Model 3. 82 kWh is relatively small. If you had a 100 kWh battery then Tesla could really open it up more. But then you would likely be on a bigger platform, aka Model S.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Literally what I am doing. Killer deal right now on wheels when you get the Hankook ION tires - 10% off + free shipping + $120 rebate. Probably around $700 off in total. No idea what you/I will actually get back for the stock 20” wheels, but I’m sure someone will want them.

Could be. Was on engineering vehicle. Part catalog leak below for ref

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Wheels that may be in track package at some point. Match part catalog leak last year. Personally don’t like any more or less than the warp wheels but YMMV
  16. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Rims only or “wheels” aka rims with tires on them? 4 “wheels” do not fit across the back seat. 4 rims (no tires) is probably doable. 19” for reference
  17. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I personally have transported 4 19” wheels before. You can barely fit two in the trunk of the M3 (struggled to get the trunk to close) so two 20” may be too big. You have to “sneakily” get the other two in the back seat, which is not easy and again 19” not 20”. Not saying it can’t be done, but...
  18. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Agreed, but transporting 4 19” wheels to a delivery appt is easier said than done. And then also transporting the 4 20” wheels after they swap lol.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Also maybe this is considered off topic or the wrong forum, but there was a bill filed in the senate to repeal the EV tax credit effective 30 days after enactment. So those who told me earlier I shouldn’t worry about the IRA getting repealed, should the dynamics of US politics change here in 6...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Gunna be great when I take delivery on December 30th with summer tires when it’s 30 degrees outside.
  21. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Which is when I’m buying the ultra red config 😁 but also don’t overestimate Tesla demand right now. It’s the lowest it’s been in years
  22. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Wait an hour and check again. Prices change all the time. It’ll be under the $55k cap again once Tesla clears out the initial demand
  23. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

People say “the rims fit” but then they clarify and say “the rims fit with spacers.” None of the Tesla OEM 18” or 19” rims fit the P trim without spacers (except new Warp 19” in China).
  24. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

So it sounds like the 2024 P will be perfect then! With the adaptive suspension I imagine one can tune it to his/her liking also. I am ok with stiff suspension. But there is a very clear difference between stiff and harsh. The old Tesla suspension is HARSH.
  25. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Same here. Plus the suspension is allegedly 1000x better even without the adaptive suspension. I hate the suspension so much on my 21 LR.
  26. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I bent a rim on my current 19” with all seasons on a pothole. Granted this was more like a sinkhole than a pothole and I didn’t see it, but still lol. So yeah 20” are a hard no for me. 19” look better aesthetically than 18” also.
  27. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

They aren’t directional tires, so you don’t need to dismount the tire. Just move the entire wheel side to side on the car. But yes minimal benefit anyways bc you can’t swap front to back.
  28. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It’s not the tires (but they are summer tires that probably won’t last awhile), it’s the staggered rim size setup. The front tires may get 40k but def not the rears. The rear tires will be shot long before the fronts bc you can’t rotate them (except side to side) and all the power and torque...
  29. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Didn’t they sandbag the old M3P numbers though? 3.1 seconds with rollout advertised and I thought people were getting 3.0-3.1 without rollout in real world
  30. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It’s just white protective wrapping guys lol. They always ship like that
  31. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

The new rear motor on the P may draw more power than the LR motor as a baseline, but I agree with your conclusion. I think the LR better went back to a 78 kWh battery too vs the P 82 kWh pack, which likely makes them neck and neck again on range.
  32. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Oh wow good catch. It just auto chose them for staggered fit
  33. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

They already have the 2024 M3P as an option to search for tires. Here’s the link to the tires, but it will likely say “please enter your vehicle” to make sure these tires fit. Probably just not available everywhere yet. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/pirelli-p-zero-pz4

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Tire Rack already has the OEM summer Pirelli’s for sale…$435 per tire 🤢 280 UTC grading lol gunna last 10k miles max. Definitely gunna have to replace with 19” rims and all season tires for me…likely the Hankook ION EVOs for only $267 each for 19”
  36. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Yeah so essentially your rears will need to be replaced very often. Probably 2 sets of rears for every 1 set of fronts most likely.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

I think you meant LG NMC and Panasonic NCA. It is clear the LG battery is limiting the power output for the MIC Model 3 P. So the question is - why is the LG battery “not as good” as the Panasonic NCA USA made battery? Why is the LG battery not made to the same standards as the Panasonic USA...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

They aren’t really plugs, just smaller aero clips. See pic from China M3 below.
  39. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I think you’ll be able to order the other smaller caps for the wheels. Been waiting for an update to the owners manual and parts listing but Tesla hasn’t done it yet.
  40. Jeremy3292

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Said another way - demand isn’t linear, but production is. Spacing out demand is what they want so they can better match production. And if you can space out demand and increase margin at the same time, winner winner chicken dinner for Tesla.
  41. Jeremy3292

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

So LG or BYD can’t make a good NCA battery like Panasonic? That was my question/point.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

For sure, but there is some method to the madness when it comes to pricing
  43. Jeremy3292

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

They dropped the black color price $500 and the price of white seats $500 after raising the base price $1,000, so it seems they are doing that. You need to remember the actual cost of producing the cars also. Like ultra red is an expensive paint option bc it costs Tesla more money to produce it...
  44. Jeremy3292

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Agree 100%. Tesla is capitalizing on the demand and hype of the new Highland and P trim releases. If they raise the P trim over $55k, demand evaporates instantaneously. For a real world example, I myself won’t buy one then lol. The LR price will drop for sure also. It’s $1,750 higher now than at...
  45. Jeremy3292

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

This is obviously an opinion, but with interest rates as they are I don’t think low production and high demand will be the issue. Most people live on monthly payments anyways. Once the hype of this release dies down, macroeconomic conditions don’t really project any meaningful sustained demand...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I don’t have a P but I have a 2021 LR with AB and am ready to upgrade in December. A bunch of reasons for me: some applicable to all, some personal to me. 1. Suspension changes is #1 for me. My current M3 is such a harsh ride. It’s brutal (and I’m not certain shelling out $$$ for aftermarket...
