San Diego SDG&E users, are you getting home consumption in your mobile app?

Nice. I don't have a Powerwall so it was a pain to get Tesla to install it.

San Diego SDG&E users, are you getting home consumption in your mobile app?

I just got Tesla to install a powerblaster for my solar roof in SD. System has been running since February.

    Solar Roof Gutter Replacement

I had a solar roof put on, without removing the gutters. Tesla damaged two of the gutters along the way, so they are replacing both of those at their cost. If your gutters still work and you like the way they look, there's no reason to remove them.

    Tesla Inverter + Neurio

Very cool! I'm still trying to get this for my solar roof, no PWs.

Delta M-4, String drops out to zero for 2 hrs ? [delta inverter issues]

Definitely worth getting their contact info during the install process

Delta M-4, String drops out to zero for 2 hrs ? [delta inverter issues]

Best success I've had is calling the Install crew lead or anyone in the local chain. If they are in Vegas, or elsewhere, I've not had much luck getting a response. The local crew is usually 24hrs or less.

    Steel solar roof tiles?

If you have kids, the less glass the better. The glass is very durable when installed, but if they get dropped or a corner gets bumped prior to installation they shatter. I had multiple glass panels break during our install, every time it rains or wind blows hard, more glass appears in my...

It just came back. Very strange.

Instantaneous output not reporting in app

The past few days I haven't been getting the instantaneous output reading at the top of the app. I power cycled the gateway and checked the inverter with the delta pro app, but still nothing. Anyone else seeing this?

Delta M-4, String drops out to zero for 2 hrs ? [delta inverter issues]

Interesting. Definitely get them out to check it, over current shouldn't happen, they may not have set the strings up correctly.

    PowerBlaster Installation?

I escalated to Resolutions when I didn't receive a power blaster. They told me they don't have any more. I've been clear that if they can't provide it they need to give me a credit (haven't paid yet) or we'll be going to arbitration. Will see what they say.

Delta M-4, String drops out to zero for 2 hrs ? [delta inverter issues]

That is strange. Do you have the delta M pro app (android)? If you do, go get the detailed data via Bluetooth. Admin code is 6532.

    Solar Roof pricing funkiness

Yes, they should, you have a signed contract. I imagine it like home loan interest rates, they fluctuate, and once you lock in, they still change, but you're not affected because you're locked.

East, South & West individual power production graphs

Looks like your combination gives power across the whole day, mine are SE facing, and it's very abrupt coming on and off.

    Solar Roof pricing funkiness

I would not have gone solar roof for the new price they are quoting for my house, it's almost back to V2 prices!

Moving to new house.. solar system sizing

That is great! Our closest gas to the kitchen was in the garage, not easy. The only person on our block with gas got it because they're house got flipped haha.

Moving to new house.. solar system sizing

For the price of running a gas line to our kitchen, we got an induction stove and it's a game changer. Boil water in 90 seconds, repeatable heat control (it's only 11 levels, unlike gas which is infinitely adjustable), and with kids, it keeps the controls away from them and isn't nearly as hot...

    Tesla Solar Design Feedback

There is nothing inherently wrong with a 0.8 ratio. If Tesla charges the same for either inverter, get the bigger one. If they charge more for the bigger one, probably still get it. You can still set up strings at a 0.8 ratio to have extremely high efficiency. Clipping for hours a day loses more...

Financing vs cash for solar panels

Develop a relationship with your installers, they also do repairs or warranty service, so if you have their contact info, you have a direct line to the people doing the work. Fastest way I got a roof leak taken care of was calling the install lead, he got people out same day. I also tried...

Based on your answers little shading, I wouldn't worry about it. Why did you want the SE inverters?

    Steel solar roof tiles?

I'm assuming the new metal tiles will be stronger and be set up to work with the roof attachment system.
  23. SoCalSolarRoof

    17kW System = 98.4 kWh Production (5.79kWh/kW of Panels)

That's a good way to look at it. Peak vs off peak in winter for SDG&E is only $0.02. In the summer it is $0.20 for my plan. Average that over the year to $0.11, I get less than $10,000 in savings and power walls were going to cost $8k each installed after rebates, and I needed 2 to run the AC...

For Tesla roof, what are tiles for NON solar portion made of?

Once Tesla gives a quote, they stick to it, unless there is additional work like subroof plywood to replace or other extraneous items. We paid an extra $200 for plywood and $770 to do a section of flat roof above our garage. That was it! We were fortunate to not need an electrical panel upgrade...

    Steel solar roof tiles?

They already make metal tiles that are textured the same as the glass tiles, but they were not heavy duty enough to walk on. I used a few to cover up the stair step weather proofing on my chimney.
  26. SoCalSolarRoof

    17kW System = 98.4 kWh Production (5.79kWh/kW of Panels)

Totally fair points. For our family, using ~7,000kWh/yr and generating ~10,000kWh/yr, I couldn't make the math work for 2x powerwalls, which is what we were told we'd need to run the AC. Every case is different. Glad it made sense for you!
  27. SoCalSolarRoof

    Steel solar roof tiles?

That's right, they were talking about the non PV full tiles being metal instead of glass. Anyone with little kids will be better off with metal. Broken glass in my back yard is not fun with the kids running around back there.
  28. SoCalSolarRoof

    Steel solar roof tiles?

Interesting. I heard a rumor from my installers that they were planning on moving away from glass non-PV tiles, but from cost and reliability perspective. I had a lot of broken glass tiles during my install, we're still finding pieces in our yard. Some of the guys mentioned that they may start...

Are V3 Solar Roof tiles readily available now?

Lots of V3 solar roofs installed here on the forum. Ours was installed between Jan-Mar 2021.

    17kW System = 98.4 kWh Production (5.79kWh/kW of Panels)

In California, I've only had 2 power outages that were more than 5 minutes in the last 10 years. The last one was summer 2020, and it was at 7pm, for 90 minutes, so I wouldn't have been producing anyways. With that track record, it's hard to justify the cost of the battery.
  31. SoCalSolarRoof

    Under performance

My solar roof had a panel that had arc'd and was keeping one of my strings from full output. I wouldn't worry about the December data, definitely have them look at the strings, I would guess there is an issue with one or more.

Tesla Solar Roof with Tesla Inverter, no PW, Powerflow?

Hey all, If you have a Solar roof only (no PW) installation with a Tesla inverter, and have the power flow capability in the app (you see grid and Home usage, along with solar generation in real time), I'd like to hear from you. I am being told that Power Flow is not provided to any solar...

Tesla app question: X kw output

Cool! Yes, I have solar only right now, with no power blaster so the app only reports output to the graph every 15 minutes. It is often the case that a cloud came through during the previous reporting, then goes by so my instantaneous shows output prior to the next 15 minute graph update...

Solar layout - Does this need optimizers?

Modern inverters have very low minimum input voltages, the delta M8 for my install works down to 50V.

    Received our SolarRoof Installation Plans

Glad you got it! Mine has been helpful in understanding why some strings are dropping output during the day (shading). I asked my project advisor for it. Since PTO, I now no longer have a dedicated person on the Tesla website, it's a generic email and phone number.

PG&E, in California. Agreed EV charging is based on usage and battery size.
  41. SoCalSolarRoof

Moving to new house.. solar system sizing

If you have or are planning on EVs, get more. My neighbors 4kW system makes 7,000kWh/yr, and the model x uses 3,500kWh/yr to charge based on my conversation with my tesla advisor. So... an 8kW system would give you enough for 2 EVs and your house.

    Solar Roof Installation Tips

Same, it was the last thing they did, mine was covered by underlay for a few weeks, due to rain, then they pulled the underlay off to put the ridge vent caps on.

How do I connect the SolarCity Zigbee to the Solar Edge inverter?

If you have a power wall, tesla will get data from that. I had to get a long ethernet cable to get the black box gateway closer to my inverter so it would get a signal. Other people have gotten wifi network extenders that have an ethernet plug so they could put the gateway in the garage very...

Active vs Reactive Power settings on Delta Inverter

    Solar roof wiring?

Thanks! I will ask Tesla, as busy as they are around here it might be a while. The string combining is part of the design they submitted to the city. I wonder if it would require updating the permit.

    Solar roof wiring?

So I got curious, there's a junction panel in that black box. Should be really easy to swap. I've never worked with this type of connection before, how do I disconnect wires?
