Does anything need to be changed software side to enable a DIY added OEM trailer wiring module for Model 3?

Nice! I hope you get lots of good use out of it. Mine is still going strong after hundreds of miles of use: First few drives were a bit anxious but all good now. It’s been such a great addition for road trips (currently using for the half term holiday); in hindsight I wish I specced it when...

This isn`t the OEM hitch so instructions to install will differ.

Pins 9-13 are not active for current Model 3's and I doubt they ever will be given the limited towing capacity. https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/2017_2023_model3/en_gb/GUID-BD9A38D5-4410-45A3-8337-BDF7342750F3.html

Does anything need to be changed software side to enable a DIY added OEM trailer wiring module for Model 3?

I didn’t install washers, the Tesla manual doesn’t mention it for securing the receiver onto the body: https://service.tesla.com/docs/Model3/ServiceManual/en-us/GUID-2BE5600B-BB99-483E-BE16-15FEB67ADC3A.html But you do need one for securing the ECU to the receiver. I believe it comes with the...

    LFP range in decent weather

If you’re doing multiple trips before charging rather than one whole journey, then you’re unlikely to achieve up to 200 miles. I don’t think you’ve confirmed whether you’ve been making several trips on one charge or not but if you maintain 230wh/mi in one trip that takes you from 100 to a low...

    LFP range in decent weather

At 230wh/mi you should be getting well over 130 miles. But I’m guessing it’s not 130 miles non stop? Because you may also be seeing drain during stop for sentry mode and potential battery management. The consumption data only factors in energy used during drives so those metrics might not tell...

    [UK] Spring Software Update

I agree that they’ve adopted this model at least when I’ve had the car. The pinch point is probably that it hasn’t scaled very well with hardware revisions, and I don’t just mean whole model revisions. More variations of hardware means increased likelihood of the code needing to be adjusted for...

Hansshow vs Tesla Offer Power Frunk/Trunk - which one to buy?

They send quite a lot of redundant cables. So if you already have a cable connected you don’t need to replace. They apparently don’t have different kits for v1/2/2.5 to v3 so everyone gets the same kit.

Does anything need to be changed software side to enable a DIY added OEM trailer wiring module for Model 3?

Hard to say really. I think it's generally accepted that M3's from 2020 onwards will have the socket ready to go. But I wouldn't actually know when they were being fitted.

Hansshow vs Tesla Offer Power Frunk/Trunk - which one to buy?

Yeah this is affecting me too. But I think it's something to do with 2024.14.6 rather than the Tesla app because I haven't updated to the latest app version yet (iOS), and neither has my wife (Android). The behaviour suggests it's a bug rather than an intended change, but I'm keen to see what...

Hansshow vs Tesla Offer Power Frunk/Trunk - which one to buy?

The first thing I would want to do in your situation is see if I can remove the cable that runs from the main ECU to the lid. Because if I can't remove that then at least I can just connect it back again. It's also the first thing I'd try to run through with the new kit, because if I can't then...

Does anything need to be changed software side to enable a DIY added OEM trailer wiring module for Model 3?

Considering what Toolbox lets you do I'd say it's fairly easy to use. Follow steps 9 onwards here: Model 3 Service Manual | Tesla For my 2020 M3 I bought this cable: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0BR5371ZR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 But you can find out what you...

Does anything need to be changed software side to enable a DIY added OEM trailer wiring module for Model 3?

Perhaps you should avoid using the word Aftermarket, because it might suggest to Tesla that you're looking to fit non-OEM parts. This would make sense as to why they're talking about warranty in such strong terms. As mentioned above, Tesla can't invalidate the warranty of the entire car. But...

Pedestrian Warning System - Self Install

Officially they won't activate the speaker if you didn't order it from them. But you can sometimes catch a generous engineer or support advisor. I wore the Gatwick team down and they eventually agreed to activate the speaker I fitted for £9. That took literal months though and I think I got lucky.

If you were asking Tesla to fit this for you then they will say no, which I guess is what you have been told. This is different to what you’ve seen in this thread because most in this thread have or are fitting it themselves.

Does anything need to be changed software side to enable a DIY added OEM trailer wiring module for Model 3?

I’ve had the tow kit plus the software active since last August and my warranty is still intact. Everything I’ve fitted electronically is directly from Tesla. I’m not sure who has been advising you but no wiring needs to be spliced or cut. The ECU connects to the wiring loom via an available...

Does anything need to be changed software side to enable a DIY added OEM trailer wiring module for Model 3?

Thanks but I can't take any credit for this! Here's the parts list from my invoice: It doesn't include the receiver, which I got second hand as mentioned. The part number for that is 1137916-00-B. You can order them via the Tesla app service menu. I'm assuming you know this but fitting the...

Does anything need to be changed software side to enable a DIY added OEM trailer wiring module for Model 3?

£450 was for the parts for the car (Receiver, ECU, jumper socket, tow ball, nuts and bolts) and the software config. Everything was new and direct from Tesla apart from the actual tow hitch receiver. I got that from a salvage car because it wasn't available over the counter when I enquired. But...

M3 windows opened/vented themselves this morning

Last week my windows were winding up and down erratically when the doors were open. I only found this out by slamming the door against the trim as the window wound up, which caused scuffs and a dent. Took it into Tesla yesterday and they said a faulty puddle light was sending erroneous signals...

    [UK] Spring Software Update

I prefer TACC over dumb cruise control but the one in the Model 3 stays too far back and also takes too long to regain speed when the lane is clear. So I’m often having to use the accelerator anyway. To be fair I don’t think that feature was any better with radar.

    [UK] Spring Software Update

I’m going to take a wild guess here and say nobody in this forum currently works for Tesla’s engineering team, so couldn’t possibly know the real reason they have not included the UI changes for Intel based cars. Personally I think the Intel hardware is up to the task. But Intel based cars are...

Hansshow vs Tesla Offer Power Frunk/Trunk - which one to buy?

I see...would be interesting to see the difference between the OEM and aftermarket kit. Where does the ECU go and how do you get to the CANBUS? There is a UK&I sub forum you can search for, but the members in that region likely to be using Toolbox are probably in this thread anyway. I might be...

So they actually just gave you the kit to fit yourself? Nice. I know what I would guess but I think it would be as good as anyone else's. So I'd recommend getting input from Tesla directly on it. I'm not planning on delving into Toolbox anytime soon, but if you can't wait then your best bet is...

    New headlights retrofit

VPN won't help I don't think. You can set a locale that's different to yours, but once you've set the locale for your service account it can't be amended (at least when I tried this a year ago). Annoyingly this was because the service manuals were only available in US and China at the time, so I...

Hansshow vs Tesla Offer Power Frunk/Trunk - which one to buy?

It’s possible that when your kit was fitted the person who fitted it didn’t bother attaching the loom to the trunk lights. It looks harder than it is. The risk of something going wrong is low, but the impact is high if it does as you know. If you’re careful and patient you’ll be fine. No, I...

EVOffer have confirmed that the loom to the trunk lights aren’t needed once the Toolbox config is updated. Hansshow vs Tesla Offer Power Frunk/Trunk - which one to buy?

It’s a 30-second job if you place the ECU in the recommended spot. I mean the pre-highland facelift lights as you’ve pointed out. Not a fan. The same loom for the buzzer in v2.5 feeds the power to the trunk lights (not sure why this needs to happen). I wonder if this means this is just not...

I'm almost certainly in the minority here but I prefer the pre-facelift rear lights. Yeah not all of the clips came off with the panel, so negotiating them back onto the panel was annoying. It shouldn’t be that large but you should be able to adjust rubber back in. It might be that it hasn’t been re-fitted properly.
