In the past, the peak rate of IOG dropped but the cheap rate stayed the same. I expect this is what will happen.

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

I have emailed them a couple times asking for them to be able to control the Powerwalls. They always said "no plans". Does the new API allow control of Powerwall parameters, then?

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

Well, it's a fine balancing act. They are still a commercial entity, after all.

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

Fair point. I suspect it's still probably worth is. There are plenty of days with very significant differences between the "cleanest" and "dirtiest" hours. Today, for example, "clean o'clock" is about half the carbon intensity of "dirty o'clock".

Tesla sales continue downwards trend in Europe

My gripe with Tesla is nothing to do with Mr Musk. I honestly can't jump into the hate-everything-he-does camp that seems so popular these days. It's the ergonomics, the lack of stalks, the absence of buttons, the changing UI, the auto-wipers that don't work and all the usual gripes I've had...

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

This is not always necessarily true, especially outside of the winter months. I have noticed that there have been multiple occasions when carbon intensity was greater overnight (when I'm charging my batteries) than during the day (when I'm injecting power into the grid), usually because of the...

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

Well, it costs you nothing to export. In fact, you can export at twice what it costs you to import, making self-consumption not a great idea currently. On top of that, you can use your battery to make a tidy sum over the winter Saving Sessions. Seems like a no-brainer to me ;)

If the rise in insurance is because of repair costs why isn’t third party cheap too?

Really? Crumbs, I didn't know that. Thank you for the heads-up! 🤦🏻‍♂️

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

So I just got an email from Octopus with a summary of all the stats for this winter's saving sessions. It would appear that Shrewsbury was the area where the most savings took place! I wonder who else has been squeezing their batteries around here ;)

Or outdated and obsolete software heaven. Everything stays as it is. I know the car's foibles and can predict and adapt to its behaviour. The screen information remains where I know it was. Nope, I'm good thank you ;)

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Not at all. It just doesn’t fit everyone’s usage pattern. Not trying to be unkind but it sounds like you fell for the marketing and failed to adequately investigate the product before buying it (as you indeed admitted to in your post). As @spooksman mentioned above, the trick is to try...

My experience taking Tesla to court about FSD

If he wants to, he will. The key is that he now knows what product (or the promise thereof) he is buying and how likely he is (or not) to actually get it in a reasonable time frame. I am not entirely clear as to the intent of your post, if I’m honest.

    [UK] Spring Software Update

There is a certain feeling of liberation now that I know that my car is no longer a glorified changeable software platform on wheels. It's obsolete now, so hopefully it will remain what it is now (minus a few safety tweaks here or there) and I won't have to keep "learning" a new software and its...

Not had any of that and, quite frankly, can do without crappy tat all the way from China to just end up in an incinerator or a landfill.

Errrr…. Why not? Octopus has pretty much the most generous export tariffs for those of us on Intelligent Octopus Go (15p/kWh)

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

If you see clipping it should be an inverter issue. Also, I have had mine cleaned for the first time after 4 years and it seems to have improved performance somewhat so if yours have been installed a while ago it might be worth considering that?

Help with Powerwall just fitted (stuck at 100% and not discharging to power the house) UK

My array is East/West facing and it works just fine. Slightly flatter but wider curve so in the end it may it be THAT much less than a purely south facing system.

[UK] Report that Tesla not going to produce low cost “Model 2”

This is hardly a surprise. I always thought it was a Musk statement rather than a well thought-out product but it's still early days so who know what will happen? There certainly seem to be a very vocal bunch who think it's the best thing since sliced bread... 🤷🏻‍♂️ Indeed, although Tesla is...

[UK] Report that Tesla not going to produce low cost “Model 2”

You may be right but although that margins will almost certainly need to be lower, the market segment is huge. The risks may be significant but I think they would probably be reasonable ones to take. That said, he did go for a very risky product with the Cybertruck, so it seems Tesla is not that...

My experience taking Tesla to court about FSD

I actually would be more inclined to think that most rich people tend to not spend vast sums of money on depreciating assets and probably drive older cars. The obscenely rich (I'd say net work over 100million) excluded, of course.
  38. ACarneiro

My experience taking Tesla to court about FSD

You need to remember that you're in a UK subforum and your experiences are very different to our own. There has been precious little progress in FSD's performance over the last 5 years over here. We're most certainly not seeing anything like what you're describing. I guess it makes sense for...

    Where's solar charging gone?

Not ever having had FiT, I suspect ir brings an element of predictability. There is nothing stopping octopus from reducing their Outgoing tariff back to 4p/kWr next year (I'm convinced it's only a matter of time). Also, if you have deemed export then you can "double dip" your solar production...

My experience taking Tesla to court about FSD

Why, buy it if it suits us of course! It's odd, your question seems to imply that this is somehow an ideological persecution of Tesla and these people are getting "revenge" against a company they now hate. Maybe that is true for a minority. In my view this is simply consumer protection at...
  41. ACarneiro

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Thought about it but the current Loyal tariff is just under 6p As I tend to be fairly risk-averse, I don’t think the uncertainty is worth it for a couple of pence per kWh, especially when I have moved most of my energy usage to electricity.
  42. ACarneiro

    Where's solar charging gone?

The blurb on the Tesla website says you can't have a site export limit (don't think it mentions import limit?) I have no idea why that is, but explains why the option isn't available for me. Then again, with current Octopus export rates I wouldn't want to anyway. Makes more financial sense to...

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

A lot of what gets posted on here is opinion, not fact. Some are more grounded, some are just guesses. @Zilla91 can be a tad provoking sometimes but I see no reason to go straight onto the offensive. That said, thank you for posting those links. They come from Teslarati, though, which isn't a...

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

Why would you accuse someone of “trolling” like that? Are you based in the US, by any chance? I don’t agree with @Zilla91 on his opinion there but it’s a perfectly reasonable opinion to have.
  45. ACarneiro

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

That's quite a short term view. The only way to fund R&D and to invest in order to make future products is to make a profit on the current ones. Tesla are still very much in the early stages of the life cycle and have high capital expenses to build factories and buy equipment so I think it's...

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

This was a really interesting read, thank you for that I meant storing in the summer the gap between what we produce and need in the winter. Sorry if I wasn’t clearer. I probably have an overly simplistic view of it and the storage requirements may not be as big as I think, especially as more...
  47. ACarneiro

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

You’re preaching to the converted! Mind you, when you account for devaluation and the “EV insurance premium” it may not work out that much cheaper. The insurance “discrimination” against EVs will eventually ease off as cars become cheaper and repairs less expensive. But it’s definitely a problem...

    New Highland UK - stalks

This was an absolute stroke of genius. I’m sure Tesla (and maybe even EVs on the whole) wouldn’t be anywhere as prevalent today if they hadn’t had the foresight to sort out the charging infrastructure with such a good network so early on. Agree with the rest of the post and strongly agree with...

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

I think you’re being about as optimistic about solving The Storage Issue as I am about solving The Thorium SMR Issue. I seriously suspect that storing the amount of renewable energy required to get us through a whole year is much harder than sorting out molten salt reactors. I really don’t know...
