Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Sorry, I wasn't too clear. Basically I hardly ever solar charge as it doesn't make sense with current export rate. So I don't call on ECO+ on the Zappi and hence the IOG/car integration doesn't need changed for now, particularly as it's working nicely.

I have a Zappi but integrated with the car. Never missed a beat. We do have a lot of export solar generation but it's more sensible to push that to the grid than charge the car currently. Should that change, I'll review the Zappi integration.

    Octopus IOG, Zappi and Eco+

Ah, didn't think about that, many thanks. I'll give it a whirl later in the week when it looks like there's potential for some clipping again. Certainly makes sense that it should work, cheers!

    Octopus IOG, Zappi and Eco+

Just tried that but no joy. I suspect IOG bump charging doesn't work with the ECO+ setting but happy to be shown otherwise. IOG controlling the car hasn't missed a beat so I'm reluctant to switch to it controlling the Zappi unless there's no option. Any other workarounds?

    Octopus IOG, Zappi and Eco+

Just a quick sense check regarding IOG, Zappi and the ECO+ setting please. I suspect I know the answer but handy to have it confirmed please. Currently Octopus controls my car, not my charger. Today I switched to ECO+ to try to manage some solar clipping and it didn't work. Pretty sure that I'd...

Help with Powerwall just fitted (stuck at 100% and not discharging to power the house) UK

We're E/W, even split with 10.1 kwp. It theoretically gives 80% ish of a south facing array of the same size. We generated 8.2 mwh last year and already doing over 30 kwh even on average days so far in April. We have good battery storage and pretty much break even on power costs over the year...

    Thinking of selling

Some nice work there. Fortunately we were able to lower their mortgages to just a few hundred each month, so even if they lost jobs, nothing too catastrophic would happen. At least that's the plan. Totally understood about minimising loans, rental payments, mortgages etc - it was bad enough back...

    Thinking of selling

Facinating thread, thanks for sharing. I'm particularly interested in the retirement tales as I'd planned to retire at 58 (latest) but now just turned 60 I'm still here alongside the wife running the business, less frantically than say 7 or 8 years ago but still fairly deeply involved...

Thanks for the that. Looks like the good days are over. So much for EV incentives. Meanwhile the charging networks also continue to fleece us. Predictable i guess.

    Renew your EV Road Tax

Quick sense check please. I renewed late January - so I can renew free next January and then again before end March 2025 (assuming the loophole isn't closed)? Should I forget the re-renewal back end of March next year, looks like I'd be about £30 out-of-pocket? Whilst I'm here could some kind...

    Reliable non-Tesla granny charger needed

He's gone for the 10m Masterplug. He found a review from an electrical engineer on one of the other EV forums which rates it. Also the speed at which he could get it (arrived already) and the convenience of the 10m cable. I advised the Tesla unit plus a Tough Leads cable but either way, I think...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Just under 4p per unit I reckon. Currently 4.1p here but often under 4p. That's probably jinxed it! However, warmer weather on the horizon. So yes, for the 6 months or so we've been on it, a lot cheaper. One thing to note is that you can switch away without penalty i believe but they don't let...

May be an option, thanks for that. The 5m plus a Tough Leads extension would do it.

    Reliable non-Tesla granny charger needed

My son just purchased a Megane E-Tech (very nice car!) and is waiting for the DNO to sort his electrical supply before having a Zappi installed. In the interim he bought a granny charger from Amazon for around £150 which has just failed after 4 weeks of use! Most of the third-party chargers I...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

We run 5 A2A units with 2 external heat pumps. They cover us easily for all but the coldest days in Dec/Jan when the COP falls away and we run the gas boiler for a few hours instead. That's a cost consideration as gas on Octopus tracker has been very cheap and just beats the ASHP when it starts...

    [UK] 2023.44

That's precisely why I didn't "invest" in FSD on one of the early 2019 Model 3s. Having worked in instrumentation in an earlier life I knew that if the primary measuring equipment was dodgy or easily compromised, then whatever software you had behind the scenes wouldn't make much difference. My...

Creaking tailgate - mobile technician visit

I was at Notts SC on Friday to have the pads replaced on an MYP due to "clicking" on braking - pads were moving slightly but the new set fixed it. At the same time they proactively adjusted the tailgate bump stops and lubricated the seals to resolve the issue reported above - albeit I hadn't...

    So… Highland is out…

A lot of it is what you're used to I guess. However we switched the office to Apple from Android on the last 'phone updates a couple of years back - all but two of them want their Android back. I'll need to find out why at some point I suppose. But then I still use the Blackberry hub overlay on...

Need to replace two tyres, should I go for CrossClimate 2s?

I run imported 19" rims on an MYP. I have Pirelli Scorpion SF2 all season on those which have been very good. Better specs (on paper) than the CC2. I also ran Crossclimate on a Model 3 which were good. So all season tyres on performance models without problems. I'm no speed demon but no issue...

Winter wheels and tyres for Model 3 and Model Y

I imported 19s for a MYP from TSportline which have been excellent. I spoke to them and got a significant discount on the shipping, a few hundred quid. The rims arrived FedEx from the US in 4 days. Try speaking with their customer service guys, very helpful.

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

We run two heat pumps and rarely exceed the 4kw discharge limit of our inverter. That said, we are quite disciplined with running high demand devices and just schedule them; easy enough. Our peak demand would be around 11 - 12kw at night when we're charging the car and batteries. We don't use...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

There are still quite a few issues with the GE AIO if the posts on the GE forum are to be believed. It's not easy to determine the ratio of good:bad experience as we all know that the disgruntled folk justifiably shout loudest. That said, there are enough concerns being expressed at the moment...

My experience taking Tesla to court about FSD

FFS, they really don't get customer service do they. They might as well have said, "we know you're right, we don't like it but F off anyway". Dismal really.

My experience taking Tesla to court about FSD

I purchased a new MYP in January with the knowledge that USS had been removed. I discussed this with them in the showroom and they assured me performance parity would come - I was skeptical however as I'd seen early results. I was careful to document the discussions and also emailed a few times...

My experience taking Tesla to court about FSD

Well done to the OP. To be honest, I'm not sure why the whole FSD thing wasn't challenged way before this and the over optimistic performance claims dismantled. Having followed the angst on here since 2019, it's clear to me it was never going to achieve what it claimed. As a tech-lover I...

Spare full sized wheel for M3 - UK

I have a Wolf low profile jack, off Amazon if I recall. Lifts around 2.25 tonnes and has a couple of sockets and handle etc. Decent price and mine has been fine although only used it a few times. The box fits very nicely in the sub-boot area so I just leave it in there. The lifting saddle does...

Spare full sized wheel for M3 - UK

It's not actually a spare as such, it's one of the original MYP wheels which I've switched out for 19s. But it should work fine as a spare. I've switched wheels before and the worst part is the weight, particularly the 21" OEM wheels on the MYP, but it's doable. My compact trolley jack is fine...

Spare full sized wheel for M3 - UK

I've changed the OEM MYP wheels to some (nice) TSportline 19s - much more forgiving. So I lob one of the OEMs in the back when it's just me and the wife travelling. It's a lump of a thing but doesn't stop us getting our baggage in and would get us out of a hole if needed. I use the smaller width...

Maximum length extension cable for use with granny charger?

I've done exactly that using a 15m cable coupled to the granny charger. The cable was from Tough Leads, great build quality and the one I opted for had a built-in trip. No issues. I usually check the socket 15 minutes in and then again periodically to see nothing getting too hot. I've got...

Can you drive your Tesla in the rain?

I've been caught in rising flood water in a Model 3 a few years ago. Up over the door sills and pushed up through the boot seals. I posted about it on here if I recall. No issues apart from drying the boot out. Today I had to navigate deep (ish) water on the A52 - no alternative as all the other...

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

We were getting well over 30p per kwh export on Flux, then they dropped it to around 30p. We were a bit late to it but even so, we still made over £700 on export and our Octopus balance sits around £1300 - too much I know. We have 10.2kwp of panels (E/W) and I don't recall importing much at all...

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Depends on the age of your inverter I think. Gen 3 has 10 slots, gen 2 just a couple but planned to be upgraded. I think that's what it is but I could be off the mark as it's something I read a while back. For what it's worth, I'm discharging any excess manually about once a week but purely for...

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

This is how I'm doing it and so far so good. I dabbled with starting the charge at 11.30pm via the car app but this jiggered with IO - you have to let it do its thing and accept that it's a beta tariff and may cause a few glitches along the way. So no car scheduling. Doing it this way also lets...

That does sound even worse than the faff I'm going through. It seems very odd and hugely resource intensive to revalidate documents you submitted and had approved previously. I guess it's tricky keeping the systems and admin all aligned with the various new tariff options! They're certainly...

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Hmmm. So some steps forward and some back! I now have the app showing IO import and 15p export. However, the export is showing as 12 months fixed and if that is indeed the case, it doesn't bode well as I'll want to go back on Flux come spring. I've asked for clarification. Anyone else seeing the...

Just as a follow-up to the post above, I spoke to a very friendly Charlotte on Octopus support who was a bit shocked about the tariff misalignment. This is pretty much what we'll be doing having switched from Flux yesterday. The last week or so was still decent on Flux but getting progressively worse and the weather ahead looks pretty poor. M3P - Bent 20" Uberturbines :(

Definitely more compliant over slightly rough surfaces. Not really noticed any noise differences - those are Pirelli Scorpion SF2 all season tyres, work very nicely with those rims. I like them because they look very much like the OEM turbines - but not made from cheese. The OEMs are in a wheel...

    M3P - Bent 20" Uberturbines :(

Yes, been pleased with the TSportline although, as you mentioned, I dropped to 19s as I just couldn't face the (near) inevitable pothole damage with the OEM 21s on the MYP. I think they look good too. I also ran after market 18s on an M3P for 3 years with zero issues - in fact they're for sale...

Thanks for this. I'm still reasonably familar with stuff like php/mysql so I suspect I could get my head around HA given time. Indeed, this is what I'm doing currently regarding export. We have a fairly big array and storage and Flux export is handy. Even the non-peak export rate makes sense versus solar EV charging at the moment. Plus the Eddi is off and we're heating water with gas (tracker rate) :(

Excellent, many thanks. Researching further it seems that the Zappi left in fast mode will also work, although Octopus support is still advising that the Zappi isn't officially supported yet. I think what they actually mean is that they're still working on the integration whereby it will still...
